turbo

Post by mhanger »

I just finished a rebuild on my turbo diesel and went through the exact same problems.

I spoke to a mate of mine, Mike Vine (turbo specialist), about the turbo and the smoke, the oil in the pipes is fine and necessary. The white smoke is fuel. I also had white smoke on start up, which turned out was because i had broken the Water Temp Sensor on the block while dropping the head back on, which was giving the incorect glow time/temp.

The white smoke under boost was a timing matter, i was told not to be concerned, i redid the timing and it blows almost no smoke, even though i was sure i had it right the first time.

After that i had the niose in the tappet cover and black smoke. All it needed was a tune (valve clearances) about 500kms after the rebuild. This sorted all my problems out and drives like new.

Hope this helps and what u have on ur hands isnt something serious. Mike also told me that i would know about it if the turbo was about to go. Give the turbo a check over (check for play, oil lines in and out, gaskets etc)
