tailshaft wont bolt up to new diff

Post by shw337 »

hey im in tghe middle of changing my diffs rond, i brought a set of diff with aftermarket 4.6 cw&p. now iv fitted the rear diff and my tailshaft wont bolt up, no mater witch way i rotate it.

why is this? i was under the impression they could all be interchanged

how do i make it bolt up?

am i goin to have the same problem with the front?

edit= just had a thourght, diffs came out of a rb30 patrol.
do they have a different bolt patten?
if so will the flange that the uni connects to be interchangable?

cheers
steve

The tailshafts and flanges are different between the rb30 and td/tb's. You should be able to swap the flanges from your old diffs to the new ones.

never really played with diffs befor, so removing the nut from the flange, it will pop off without affecting the pinion location?

Haven't played with the flanges myself, but looking at the workshop manual, the flange doesn't affect the pinion adjustment as this is done with shims near the bearings.

flange is easily swaped, not very tight, and becareful not to over tighten as there is a crush bearing somewhere in there, it would be better to use a torque wrench to tighten it.

these were the instructions given to me by a friend
i took the advise and followed his instructions, all is good now.

thank you for your ideas

No crush bearings in Patrols. They use a solid spacer and shims instead.

I found this out last year.
