hey guys i got a 4 runner with holden v6 and trans out of a vp.
i want to know if anyone on here same the same or similar conversion?
the main thing i want to know is the power you are getting at the wheels so when i get mine dyno tunned i know what power i should get.
any help will be apreciated

Hey mate, I still got the standard 5-speed in mine and was dyno'd with a crook head and got 83 kw at the wheels (33's) then with a chiptorque chip got 87 kw 4100rpm. Torque was 250Nm at 2700rpm Haven't had it dyno'd now with the heads reco'd but the dyno guys said should have close to 100kws now..

yeh . the first dyno was 85 rwkw on 31s peformance memcal and 70mm throttle body. the torque was the biggest suprise with 400 nutons. but was running a lil crook. since then fixed a few vacume leaks and gave it a tune.
gunna get it done again but got nothing to compare it to.

Yeah I've been happy with mine, I did the conversion in 2001 so its been in a while. Sure beats the 22r

i found out a way of putting the commo v6 into it with factory parts all i need is a bell housing from a 2004 v6 jackaroo/rodeo with an aisin warner auto and it will bolt to a toyota auto and the commo v6 so that means no $1000 kit from marks or dellows just a bellhousing from the wreckers so if anyone is wrecking a 2004 v6 isuzu auto let me know as i want the bellhousingbracar80 wrote:where did you get your motor from? im keen to do the conversion one day.
you should have a look on page 5, I think its flyonwalls thread about putting v6 in hilux.
i also found outy you need a custom torque converter i will let you know more about it when i find out more but a good automatic trannie mechanic should be able to tell you what you will need to know i use NOOSA AUTOMATICS as i have known him for many years

keep in mind its not just a engine conversion. you need to look at cooling system, trans coolers, suspension, alot of pipes and hoses have to be custom made to suit . also the original gages are all out of calibration.
most motor run at 90-95 degrees, a holden v6 run at 100-105 degrees so the cooling system that is originaly in the hilux cant handle the pressure and if you put a smaller thermastat it to run it cooler the motor will run in warm up mode and you wont get the full potential out of it.
a conversion kit from marks will set you back arou $4500-$5000 not including motor. to do the job right so you dont have problem like i did you will end up spendind around $10k
also the holden trans turbo 700 is not a 4wd trans it doesnt like screaming up a hill in 1st & 2nd gear my trans didnt last long at all.
had to get it rebuilt and cost me $2500 to get it rebuilt stronger so it will last.
all the sensors on the v6 are in shit places and you are going to have problems with water.
personaly i wouldnt recomend doing the conversion unless you are willing to spend the money on it, but thats just my opinion.
i would also stay away from the lexus v8 , they are far to complex and sophisticated motor to be in the bush and parts arnt cheap for them.
once again thats just my opinion.

Hey mate, just wondering which way you went for a radiator fan thermos or engine fan? I have a viscous clutch fan which works well on mine, Always interesting to hear what others have done. Have you had any dramas with the driveline other than the tranny? Conversions really do seem like a never ending R & D project, all fun and games though I guess.

its been ok so far but i havnt used the aircon yet.
it looks like i will have to get a custom alloy radiator because i can fit a bigger one.
twin fans out of a falcon are awsome but are to big to fit but if you make a shrowed it will work.
clutch fans are hard because you dont have much room to work with but marks have a kit to suit but at $500 just for the kit i would rather spend a bit more on a alloy radiator.
i also have a thermo fan on swith connected to the trans cooler to keep the temp down and that helps with engine to too.
drive line has been fine so far but i dont take mine off road to much because all the time i do something goes wrong lol.
but the diffs are still nice and tight but the tail shaft is starting to make noise.
the diffs should hold up a lot of people use hilux diffs in small car with a shit load of power, they are popular in mazda rotary that have 400-500bhp
it has been a lot of work and money for what it is. my mates have spent half the amount and have better 4bys
when i sell it who ever buys it is going to be a lucky barsted because there is not much left that can go wrong lol

When I did the conversion I put a new 3 core rad. from a diesel lux (which Marks reccomended) and there fixed fan from Marks Adapt. Never over heated once. Even when I would tow a 15 foot boat loaded up along the beach for an hour,With no fan shroud. I started off with the Marks engine driven fan but needed a way to stop it for water crossings on our Cape trip last August so looked into clutch fans and yeah, Marks wanted too much and a mob in WA wanted $700 for one. After a bit of web searching when the $AU was alot better I sourced the parts for around $200 aussies, made a spacer up to adapt to the clutch to the Marks pulley and bobs your uncle.
The first rebuilt G52 shit itself after a couple of months so bit the bullet and installed a Marks Dyna box and had no dramas since, which is good considering the price!!
Next to deconstruct was the rear diff so got a new one, blew it to pieces too so enough of the stuff around had an 80series housing chopped up and lux legs grafted to it. No dramas since apart from wheel bearings so am currently having a 100series diff cut n shut and axels made to suit.
Then it'll be time to replace the bits that have become shagged lol, fun n games...

Yeah the Cruiser diffs are the way to go, got an 80 series centre in the rear and a cruiser high pinion in the front spinning Longfield axles and CV's, all good now!

Hey frankenyota what trans are you running ? I'm looking at my options atm the 4wd specs are v6 commonwhore in an 84 4runner running a g52 gearbox which has lost all but 4th gear any ideas or info would be much appreciated ?

well the custom part of the torque converter is just modifying the mounting feet to bolt to the flex plate

I'm doing the same conversion on mine at the moment V6 ecotec with auto Grrrrr I hate Auto's so will change back to manual later when i find a strong enough box for it.
Have put in a low stall convertor and heavy duty clutch packs throught the Auto using an older VN auto as they can be fully operated without the electrics and have a nice 30% overdrive rewired the engine to suit and have it running on the shed floor, so it will now be going in over the easter period.
if interested I will put up a new post for people to see how it goes together.
the 2.8 Turbo deisel is on Ebay at the moment if anyone is interested
