Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge 2009
Moderator: evanstaniland
we used to camp in rowdy area, but this yr camped in family with 4wd club, and it was the first year that our wifes came along (group of 8) and we ended up being surrounded by groups of young blokes swagging it, making a racket, and they were gone by lunchtime sunday. why the fark do they not turn right when suppose to, and head for the feral hill.
i heard one comment, about the new family area, 'this will always be feral hill' by some drunk twat, so next year i might be on the flat area.

We left after the mud Saturday as by the afternoon everyone in camp around us (in the family area at the bottom of the hill) was getting ridiculously rowdy and messy.
That's what the security is there for. They may get more security next year who knows. But it will lose 95% of the population if there is no alcohol. Either that or they will find another way to sneak it in and I am sure it will get much more rowdy if that is the case.

I do feel sorry for them familys, we purposely camped at the base of the feral section just incase we were to noisy for the family area, but at no stage did we have a large fire, any explosions or the urge to use tyres as firewood.
So much rubber was being burnt on sat night the whole valley was toxic.
And where the fark was all the security?
At one point on sat evening, an ambo was needed for some reason up on feral hill.
The gate to feral from the competitors / exhibitors area was locked and no one seemed to know the combo.
In the end, a hole was found in the fence and the ambo went through it, but not before some pissed fool in a hilux binned it into a drainage ditch right in front of us...

Just looking over the TUFF TRUCK web page and cant seem to find anything on there where it says Tuff Truck is a BnS Ball,
i think security should b given more power to eject any trouble makers, or maybe even have a number of police (someone who can enforce the law) on site all weekend
Australia'a premier 4x4 event doesn't need these wrecking it 4 the people who wonna c the teams do wot they do best.
And thats wot really grinds my gears!

I was told the guy in the hilux was taking the ambo to his wife.Gonzo wrote:And where the fark was all the security?

He seemed a bit panicked at the time, we thought he must have known the person needing help.RV80 wrote:I was told the guy in the hilux was taking the ambo to his wife.
When he went into the ditch he bit through his own lip and head butted the windshield(there was a nice head shaped smash in it).
While he was off with the ambos we pulled his hilux out for him. His steering was a bit off after that
Security did nothing to stop the F#$*wit on the bin at the mud on Sat night
they ask him nicely to stop and walked away which did nothing. He kept trying to pick a fight with anyone telling him to shutup because of the kids in front of him. He finally got bored with giving one area the shits and went off to bug the shit out of someone else. Security should of kicked him out!!!
Whats the point of security if all they do is stand around with there thumb up there arse

Some quiet wandering was done around Feral Hill and there are quite a few vehicles who will be turned away at the gate next year... including a sterling bunch of citizens who thought it was fun to prevent to an ambulance getting to a life threatening situation.
The guy who stacked his Lux was distraught at not being able to get his seriously ill girlfriend assistance, who was not - as some people seemed to think - under the influence of alcohol.
Security is under *serious* review for next year, and I am happy to take PMs for anything that anyone noted or wishes to discuss. The offer of cash rewards for confidential information into the setting off of explosive devices that results in convictions still stands - people seem to forget the new Anti Terrorism Laws... information we have already received has been extremely helpful, thanks to those who have assisted in this.

DRS smells like a cat-food milkshake... and wet socks... and gorgonzola cheese... all whizzed up in a blender
yeh we walked through the family section to catch up with the terrace club and we had an explosive thrown in front of us while we where walking didnt say much as there was around 12 of them and 3 of us.
there where people jumping the fence and coming into the competitor area but i have to say nothing was stolen from us.
i recon maybe have a few officers with dogs stay there for the weekend and set up some stands kinda like the army did because there was alot of drugs happening too....
i dont no if i only noticed as i wasnt para this year and was competing but damn some of the crowd where F*CKWITS and all new how to drive so well and recover vehicles haha but hey best w.e ever and supose you get that on the big jobs

hi guys, does anyone have any more pics of this vehicle? if so can you pm me some or email me at wmac88@optusnet.com.au
cheers.
cheers.
Just arm the security dudes with Tazers that'll teach the little punks.
We were in the family area right at the bottom of the hill and it felt like I was right next to 2 of the explosions.......
Actually I saw a few drunken knobs - but thought thta overall there was less than the last time I attended (2006).
I enjoyed it - so congrats to the competitors & organisers from my perspective.

here is my take on the weekend
Mud Run...course was probably the best they have laid out from all the ones i have been to..it was unfortunate what became of it, however when you have 42 vehicles and a vertical step (albeit a small one at the start) there is always going to be issues..maybe get some concrete blocks in the bottom of the pit and put a certain amount of dirt on top then fill it with water so it can only be washed out to a certain depth ...
also i am still trying to see the difference between what Sean in the ABT truck did this year and what Mal did in the bushy last year, other than the fact that Sean had two wheels out and the rangie had all four..Sean was stopped by officials and Mal wasnt
and as i have said for the last four years why not change the scoring and run it similar to how the engineering and show and shine points used to be awarded..1st= 40, 2nd = 39 etc etc..scoring it how it is now makes amockery of the other 6 tracks you compete on
Security .. the fenced off area fopr competitors was good however when i can sit there and watch three people get let in by the security guards without the correct armbands then it makes a bit of a joke of it..seemed to me like Tuff Truck wasted a lot of unnecessary money on fences and security..the female security guard who manned the gate however was awesome and did a great job..also why do security need to drive around flat out on their quad bikes....i dont care whether you have vests on or not you will still run over kids etc...
Pete was always going to win as he is by far above anyone and it is not just his vehicle..put him in 90% of those vehicles and i reckon he would still win it
i think the standard of trucks this year was excellent
the ferals were definitely down on last year i thought..you can never completely erase that element from an event of this size and anyone who thinks you can is dreaming..
will i go again..yes
will i spend money building something to compete next year ..yes..however i would like to see something done re the scoring of the mud run

Looking at the event,
Standard of trucks was good. Courses were good. Some quite technical and some were easier, every car that i saw that was inivative in there ideas and admitted they might not drive it and had a back up ( such as the yellow rangie in the mud ) did well i thought.
As alot of you guys know, i got very unlucky with my rear diff on my new GQ shorty. the centre was recently put in before i bought it and wasnt put together correctly, all the crown wheel bolts came loose and fell out making a mess of everything after only doing 400 odd kms on the diff since it was installed, my weekend was full of stress trying to find parts and i missed alot of the event, all of friday and most of saturday other than the mud....... trying to repair it all.......
Lost it on the putty road about 5kms short of the event.....
Pete was awsome, big thanks to him for helping me out with equipment etc to allow me to repair my Diff, along with all the guys around my camp and the top bloke from wodonga who rebuilt my diff on the back of a ute and i made it all the way home without any problems
All in all a great weekend, lots of good drives and i wish i got to see more of it.....
Again, thanks to all who passed it around the competitors that i was looking for a diff, ended up getting bolts in singleton.
After talking to barbie, i think ill be making a comback in 2010

I was supposed to be a part of team lowrider but unfortunetly the rig was'nt ready, i'll let mudguts clarify if he want's.
Still we had a great weekend. I was pleased to see Agro auto stickers on the yellow rangie They drive that rig well.
I thought the mog was good fun to watch aswell.
To all the other guys and girl great driving "even Twon"
I think there should be a tally of breakages for each team, there were a hell of alot of cv's including longs, but no cal offroad breaks as far as i know, But i'm wondering who broke what ?

Hey guys,
this has been the 8th year straight for me, and I gotta say its
not a heap worse than previous years. At least I didn't think so.
We were right in the middle of yob hill, and we were OK.
(Last year we nearly died when someone threw a butane bottle in our
fire and napalmed my tent to sh1t), so that is my benchmark low.
But its all part of the tuff trucks experience LOL
I mean lets face it, the tuff trucks success is its downfall.
The bigger it gets, the more people are gonna find out about it.
for every 1 actual 4wder, he has 4-5 mates come to "have a look"
and then you have yob-factor....but you also have bulk interest...
In fact, if they milked the yob factor, they would kill it.
IE Deni ute muster last year had 20,000 people there.
(and you thought tuff trucks was bad = LOLZ)
That thing is hectic. but again, lots of fun..IF you look past the bogans!!
Think of the event they could hold with 20,000 x $40?
That is nearly 1 million dollars...but damn it would be messy!
Point is,
Don't let them ruin it for you.
Its classic watching these tools write themselves off.
We cable-tied 2 people in our camp that got "too pissed".
but that is the price of weakness. ROFL ROFL!!
Oh...my yob highlight...
Some d1ck tried to steal my folding chair out of my ute
...WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT = PWND

In regards to Tuff Truck this year as a spectator i think they needed to change the name to Tuff Buggy. I dont know about everyone else but i feel a full chassis vehicles ONLY should race in a Tuff TRUCK event as we all know Buggys are BORING
A Trucks a Truck a Buggys a Buggy
A Trucks a Truck a Buggys a Buggy

friday they were told that there was no winching but on saturday after the mog the rest of the competitors were told they were allowed to winch, making it unfair to the teams that already drove thinking that they were not allowed to winch.ZookiDave wrote:im not exactly sure y they canned the points, probably half completed, most by winching.
