BP Carwash, how big a GQ will still fit?

Post by 351ciofgrunt »

I have a GQ LWB with 4inch susp, 2inch body lift and 33inch tyres and I went to a BP Carwash and the girl behind the counter wouldn't let me go through the carwash, she said my GQ was too big.

So I'm interested to know how much lift is too much for a BP carwash because I'm not going to assume that the girl behind the counter knew what she was talking about.

Those of you with GQ LWB how much lift do you have and have you been through a BP carwash without any problems?

I have 4-5" lift and 35's. However i wont take it through an automatic car wash as i'm scared the car will start falling to bits.

Generally, car washes have a height limit bar on the entry (much like KFC and Maccas drive-thru's). If your car doesn't hit the bar when you drive under it - you're safe. Any dumb shit can work that out!! :D

NOTE: I was asked to leave Westfeild shopping centre carpark as i kept hitting the safety bars, and that was with my skinnies on. The plumbing and fire sprinklers mounted on the ceiling were bloody close.

my GQ with 4in sus + 40mm body and 33's and a roofrack wouldnt fit in most carparks..

Why not go to shiners.. no height limit there.

I was out at Penrith one day with my old GQ, was about to go into the open air carpark of the woolies on Northern Road. I jumped on the anchors just as I was about to go in when the missus let out a gasp... I looked around to see what she was going on about and a few moments later I realised that there was one of those height safety bars about to take about half a foot off the height of the rig.

People do stupid stuff in the name of safety... It was an open air car park for gods sake!

Drive thru - $20
Get out and watch someone do it -$50-60 bucks, more if they charge you the extremely dirty fee (aiming this price at cyrstal crapwash

Shiners locally doesnt or didnt charge for extremely dirty. I'd tell them to smoke Twons pole "extremely dirty fee"??? WTF? isnt it a carwash?

Shiners $20 usually does it, depending on how dirty

i noticed width to be an issue...

a stock GU won't fit in alot of the older automatic car washes because of the width!

There's a car park at Highpoint S/C (or was, 2 years ago when I lived close to it) where you can drive into an open air carpark through one driveway that has no height limiter, and the only way out is through a multilevel car park that has a 2.1-meter limit on it! You have no way of knowing this when you drive in though.

I mean you can drive out through the "in" driveway but you have to defy their sign to do it.
This is not legal advice.

The the same as my Mav, I can fit when I have my roof racks on (mind you they only add another 1-2"..

Anyhow, car washes aren't my concern lately, it's the increasing amount of hotels with 1.9 height bars on them. And if I put 35's on.. going to the Casino will be risking, even tho it's a 2.1, if parking is full there the next best is 2.0 and that's close enough already.

I have 7" sus and 35's and i just clear the 2.1m limit at Erina Fair car part, granted its close, i measured the car from the ground to the top of the roof and its 2.04m, when driving along i can put my hand out the window and reach the roof

Funny thing is you watch the people's faces as you head for the pipes hanging down and some even look away :)
its funny

even better is when i have passengers in my patrol and head in there, the screams and shit i get as i head for the safety bar is so funny

2.1 in the troopy with 33s on it and 2 inch lift is very very very close and to get out of it air down was required due to the ramp and roof height. Westfeild kotara in newcastle =[

4" lift and 35" BFGs on a GU ute and getting about 2.07m. Soooo much fun with the 2.1m bars. Espeacially with passangers and pedestrians :D

Be careful. Height is governed by the lowest point in entire carpark. Some carparks will have 4m clearance except for one spot where a sewer pipe hangs down 2.1m. Hit that and you're in the shit

I went through a auto carwash recently with 35"x 11.5 pedes and got stuck. It was one of those ones with the hook that pulls you through. Tyres were too wide for the channel. No probs with road tyres.

Another one in clayton knocked me back because of aerial and spotlights on bullbar. Apparently they get caught up in the brushes.

My understanding was, and from what I have seen, is the lowest point minus a safety margin of 200-300mm. eg/ Low point of 2.7m - 300mm clearance is 2.4mm safe height.
