60 series questionsNEW QUESTION
ok, i have 2 HJ6xs
One is a HJ60 (round headlight) the other is a HJ61/2 (duel square headlights)..
the HJ60(round headlight) has a bottom end noise, that i can be farked trying to fix, so i bought the HJ61/2(duel square headlights)...
so the plan is to swap the 2H from one to the other, solving the bottom end noise..
now the second part of the plan is to put the duel headlights onto my HJ60.
Is this easy to do?
Can anyone see any dramas that i am going to run into?
A H2 to H2 swap should just be bolt out and bolt in?
any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I looked at doing this to my 60 a few years back and was told by the guy at the wreckers that the front guards are slightly different.... how I don't know... think he was tring to get me to buy more stuff from him!!! personally I would've thought it was just the front apron that the lights and radiator mount to that would be different.
When in doubt..... UTE-ERIZE it!!!
also the 1/4 panels i think too..

i also was led to believe its just the apron thats different, never heard of guards differing, the motor should bolt right in though, its talked about on ih8mud,a few seem to have swapped one way or the other, from memory i think they said it wasnt as straight forward a swap, but that could just mean sourcing the apron
kool, thanks
do u have any links?

There are heaps of subtle differences, the glow plugs in the 61 will be different voltage...make sure you swap them....the bellhousing on the 86 and later is different, resulting in the front driveshaft not needing double cardon...(transfer is closer to the ground) i think the only difference in guards were the blinkers on the 61 should all fit...dash should also....

i may also be able to get the gearbox from the 61, would this make the swap easier?

Sounds all to easy id just line em up side by side and start un bolting and taking measurements and trying bits as for the glow circut being different just swap it all if need be as for the gearbox if the one on the good engin is beta swap it at the same time do motor and box all in one go

Changing glow plugs is about the same level of work as changing spark plugs. Let me know when you are getting ready and i can come over and give you a hand/do the motor swap if you want.

later model had the super glow system that would glow the engine in half the time. As such they run a higher voltage and use a different glow plug.Pyrotech wrote:ok, as im not very well learned on the diesel side of things, can some please explain what is required to change them?

Your earlier model hj60 will have the earlier glow plug system, which means you need the early plugs.
Glow plugs just screw out with a spanner, very easy.

Hi mate, the front guards on the 61 have indicator holes in em and the top outside hole for the later corner/clearance light isn't there on your early guards. I just used a self tapper there. Apart from that you'll need to change the front apron, radiator support panel and modify your exsisting wiring. The plugs for the parkers are the same on both trucks but you'll need to swap the wires around. hope this helps.

If its a HJ61 the engine would be a 12HT which has different glow plugs.dow50r wrote:There are heaps of subtle differences, the glow plugs in the 61 will be different voltage...make sure you swap them....the bellhousing on the 86 and later is different, resulting in the front driveshaft not needing double cardon...(transfer is closer to the ground) i think the only difference in guards were the blinkers on the 61 should all fit...dash should also....
Andrew
But if its a 2H they are all the same(except the very early 47s).
*ALL 2H 60's regardless of headlight setup where designated HJ60*

Yeah don't they all run a manifold heater with direct injection?joel HJ60 wrote:\Sixty wrote:

yikes...!!!, im its not a 12ht, as she dont have a turbo..
so shes just a 2H, so does that mean, i onlyt have to unbolt the old, drop in the "new" and wire up the same as it came out?

Last time i checked Direct Injected engines dont run glow plugs
Mate, do the motors look the same? There is quite a few differences with the 2H and also 12HT or 12H, turbo been taken off.
The rocker cover will give it away straight up.
And yes old mate is right, long as ya got a return line the swap from pet tank to diesel tank wont be difficult, make sure you plug the main fuel line onto the one that actually goes down to the bottom of the tank and not the one that goes 2inches into it, i had this problem and it took a walk to the servo to buy a jerry can before i worked out why my gauge still said half a tank but my pump was dry
Get out there!!
