100 Series Turbo Diesel

Post by davo250 »

G'Day Everybody
i'm on the market for a turbo diesel 100 series that my misses can drive to work and can tow my comp truck. all my mates have Nissan's, i just can't bring my self to buying a Nissan.
Is there a better model of motor over another?
What sort of L/100km's are you getting around town and freeway?

Cheers
Dave

A good source tells me you can get 30mpg (10.6km/l) if you baby it on the open road at about 90km/h.
Steady 100km/h with a relatively stock one is 8-9 km/l.

From there they can drink as much as you like. I think the later 5 speed auto ones will be the pick, the 4 speeds are a real slush box.

5sp auto came out in late 2002, the 5sp is definantly a better gearbox as KiwiBacon already mentioned.

All the turbo diesels are the same engine, 1HDFTE. Which is the last variant in the 1H line of motors toyota first released in 1990. A very good engine and unlikely to give any problems. I own one with 114thousand on it and it hasnt had anything but servicing so far. My dad owns one too with about 80thousand on it, also no problems.

The non turbo is a 1HZ, which is a bit of a dog of a motor(but bulletproof), can be improved with a turbo, but will be nowhere near as good as the 1HDFTE.

With the 1HDFTE you get multivalve head (as seen in the 80 series) direct injection, and electronic controlled injection (more power and better economy).

As opposed to the 1HZ, not multivalve, indirect injection, mechanical injection pump.

If your after a factory turbo diesel (1HDFTE) your looking for a HDJ100R.

HZJ100R is the indipendant front 1HZ non turbo.
HZJ105R is the live front axle 1HZ non turbo.

Live front axle never came with a turbo option.

My 2006 live axle factory non-turbo 1HZ must be a freak then. heh.

Dunno when they actually stopped making them though, but mine says 4/2006 if that makes it any clearer than mud?

NOPE

Right up until the 100 series was replaced by the 200 series you could buy the full poverty pack 3rd world nation special, with the 1HZ, and the solid axle!
