which wheels

sorry to ask a dumb armature question but I am a little confused about the pros and cons of various wheel types and sizes. I have a 84 HJ47 troopy which is pretty much standard and I intend on keeping it that way. Don't do anything to hardcore off road but want them to be reasonably capable and preferably not make the steering to much more heavy as it is not power. So split rims or sunraisers? what sizes would you recommend and why? You opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, If your not doning anything extreme then stick to standard size like 31". for good ride on the road, sand and wild to average 4x4 and good on the buget try 31x10.5 x 15. Ive got steel splits and a set of wides and the wider tyres are much better ride and handling on road.

G'day mate, 31" tyres will help with pickup and fuel ecconomy, but the wheels being smaller will find more holes, whereas a bigger diameter tyre will roll over the smaller holes making the ride abit smoother, letting the pressure down will help smooth out the ride, it will make it harder to steer though.
But you probably know all that. i'd suggest 32" or 33"x 10.5x15. i've got 33x6x16s(i think) splittys on mine, but i think they're abit narrow. good for econnomy though. hope this helps. rad...

My FJ55 (no PS) had 31x10.5x15 tyres on it when I bought it. I changed them for split rims with 7.50R16 tyres and the steering is heaps better - no where near as heavy. 235/85/16 might be a good tyre size for these non PS Cruisers.

BTW, 235/85/16 tyres are the equivalent of 32x9.5x16
