New camshaft?

Post by ytt105 »

I've finally got my 86 RR V8 EFI running again on a points type distributor.

The mech has said it has problems with a couple of valves or maybe its the camshaft. I did a compression check a couple of months ago it was roughly 150 across all 8. I know I need to do a compression check again, but if this is OK does it rule out valve work and confirm the camshaft is the problem.

Vehicle has done over 400,000kms, but engine has been 'done up about 40 or 50 thou ago' or so says the previous owner who isn't the person who did it.

The mech thinks the engine is very good as it goes as well on 7 cyls as most do on 8, so I'm thinking, hopeing, that the heads are fine and the 'rebuild' was done well except the camshaft was not replaced.

How do I confirm the camshaft need replacing, what cam do I get, what extra parts do I need, where do I get them from and roughly how much will it cost me?

Many thanks
