Yeah am only running 13-14 psi with fuel turned up a bit from standard, guy that tuned it reckon after intercooler will be able to turn fuel n boost up more which i though no sh#t but i'll just drive as is for awhile because am happy with it for now. Yeah egr is blocked and over pressure is removed(12-13psi i think?) Was running 8psi standard. 3" dump pipe and exhaust and larger air intake pipe and bigger airbox hooked upto snorkel now. alot of things to get the 2.8 going well but it really does go good now and pretty good on fuel. The mods allow much better flow throughout motor and temps seem alot better then b4 all of it so am thinking head will last along time.

bits needed for it were

1-90 degree 3" to 2" (IC bottom)
1-90 degree 3" to 2.5" (IC top)
1-90 degree 2.5" to 2" (plenum)
1-45 degree 2" to 2" (turbo outlet)
2-steel L brackets for bottom of IC
2-custom steel brackets for top, or use another 2 L brackets and drill new holes for top mounts of IC
1-IC inlet outlet on same side
piping was done by exhaust shop out of stainless steel

all up cost me about $650.

good to see more patrol owners using these coolers rather than trying to plum traditional single pass units up the drivers side, so much easier and neater.

This is mine, fairly neat I think, cut the holes with an angle
grinder as I didnt have a hole saw and once the grill is back
on you dont see any of it.

Intercooler is 75mm wide and only JUST fitted in behind
winch, No Air-Con, had to take out passenger head light
to slide it it, welded some brackets to the bottom and top,

You said others said it was too hard too mount a front mount, so I think
we have both proven it can be done to a GQ wether diesel or not.

If it helps or encourages someone else to do it then great.

Lewie,
I did the same jb using a Safari IC I got off ebay. The fit is tight as mentioned to gets pipes about. Where did yu get the adjustable pressure valve fr boost pressure? Mine is running standard 10PSIG. I wuld like to push a little higher.
Also, is your exhaust 3" right the way out or just for dump pipe?
I read on another thread there is a thottle plate or orifice plate on outlet of the factory turbo that limits its breathing - is this actually the case - if so, is it easily removed? Do yu think the utput wuld increase with standard exhaust and throttle plate removed?
I have made enquiries about upgrading exhaust, but largest commercially avail system advertised is 21/2" - is your a custom job or where did yu get it?
Mine is a July 1997 build - last shipment before the GU hit Aust.
Thanks and your install looks very neat.

No point in getting a 3" dump pipe and keeping standard small exhaust. yeah its 3" mandrel bent and only has 1 small sports muffler just before the diff, sounds good. Big exhaust made a huge difference. Bought the boost controller from autobarn for about $70

That's correct. GU 2.8s came out with a factory top mount intercooler GQ 2.8s have no factory intercooler.
