Post by Zute »

Ive replaced the steering box, but I got the arm lined up wrong and it needs to come off again. Anyone got any tricks ?
Ive heated it, hammered it, pulled it with a puller.
next Im gunna cut it with a grinder :bad-words: Somebody save me from going to this extreme.

go to supercrap and buy a $ 34 pitman arm puller or for $ 28 you can buy a 3 legged puller it will almost fall off with either.
How do I know how much? I bought both on saturday.
if its still stuck with a puller on it give it a sharp hit with a bfhammer while the pressure is on there.

Ive broken a supercr*p pitman puller once before and the 3 leg dont fit. Ive got a 2 leg 3" puller and the bolts all bent and broke. Belted the life out of it and heated it. Still no Joy. :x
In the end Ive cut it with a Dremell. Than welded the slice back up. This will be a temp fix till I chase down a new one.

Yep, not keen to drive it too much.
That must have been a solid wack you gave it to brake the steering box shaft. How did you get it home ?

no no real hit at all
I think I may have fractured it a few drives before. It turned sideways across a nasty downhill track and punched a bank.
myself and a few mates had to drive it out 1st low idle kicking the wheels straight for about a kay and a half.
then had to go to work to pick up my truck and ramps. Great fun at 2 in the morning.

The problem with welding things like pitman arms if you don't 100% know what your doing (welding forged steel) it will crack next to the weld more than likey. things like that should be pre heated and welded using special equipment.
