ISUZU 4bb1 engine into hj45

Gday all, i have a 1978 hj45 with H diesel motor, cant start to explain how painful it is to drive! I also have an old ISUZU truck with a 4bb1 engine that runs very well, so i thought i would put two and two together. Has anybody done this before?

sounds like a painfull swap why not fit the 13b or beter still the 13bt to the 45 much easyer as it would be a bolt up affair the 4bd1 would need an adaptor of some kind and could become a big pain in the arse

thanks chris, the only reason i thought about this is beacause the motor is there and i know it runs like a clock. every one says the ISUZU motors are very reliable and if i put a turbo on it and put a five speed and trasfer case out of a 75 series it should make for a great old ute. I also thought about a 4bt cummins, they sound like a lot of muking around beacause the sump hits the font axle and you have to put the springs over the front axle. The sump on the 4bb1 is very flat like a cake tin, so heres hopeing!

Are you sure of the Isuzu engine type, I thought they were 4bd1. Anyhow, from what I've read they would be better than a Cummins 4bt, which is very tall as you say. If you look on www.4btswaps.com, there is a section dedicated to Isuzus. The Isuzu swap would be an interesting one for sure, and popular if easier, though the 13bt/14bt would be easiest 'cause all the bits are available..... :cool: :cool:

The sticker on the tappet cover it says 4bb1. I cant find much imformation on it other than its an earleir model than the 4bd1. I think the 4bb1 is a 3.6lt and the 4bd1 is a 3.9lt. The truck is about a 3-4t truck, i know that when you load it up it pulls like a champion! Thats why i thought id put the question out there to find out some more imformation on the motor.

Not to sure on the 4bb1, but if it is close to the 4be1, d1 then maybe put a rover box in. Would make the conversion easier.

Have a look on the Australian Land Rover forum they know a bit about the isuzu engines.
