wiring up spotties with light up rocker switch

Post by gumtree »

i thought i might try my luck for this question here also. my car is vitara, negative polarity at headlights. basically its trigger wire into high beam that prevents it being hooked up conventially.

ok got close but not perfect, i need to light in the rocker switch to light up properly when the spotties are on, atm i can only get it to light up a dull light which means it aint 100% correct. oh, ive tested the light on rocker when pluged another way the light is bright so it does work.

this is what i did
30-spotties
87-battery
86- battery
85- +plug on rocker switch (im using 85 as earth coz when highs go on it earths out creating earth on the relay).

rocker switch:
ground- tap to hight beam
+- 85 plug on relay
acc- (nothing)

can someone pls give me something that they ACTUALLY USED AND KNOW WORKS and not something they've found on the net and hope to oneday use. ive already tried something someone else has told me and did not work not even close.

Just use the diagram that suits your vehicle.

Cheers.

thankyou so much for that jaym, bridging the 30 and 85 worked also. :D

now i cant get the rocker switch to work, setup works fine without the switch, light on switch works fine but switch doesnt turn on spotties, maybe i just broke it? it has acc/ gnd/ positive. anyone know where these connect to, im stuck.

well, 86 is trigger, so you need to power that to get it to power the coil, run 12v in to + , run the acc to 86, and ground it through gnd

come on!!!

shorly on a site this big and with most having spotlights wired to thier cars, someone, at least one person reading this thread in the AUTO ELECTRICAL section would know the answer to my question. there would also have to be a few auto electricians on here as well.

please if you're reading this and know the answer help another guy out and post up the way to wire this mother.

An illuminated switch (as far as I know) is basically a switch that breaks a 12v +ve circuit. So you have one earth, one power in source (12v) then power out (acc) which goes to the positive triggered relay.

So when the switch is on and the source turns the relay on, the power coming through the 12v line lights up the switch.

I can't see how you will be able to break a earth with the switch and have it light up. Unless maybe you send 12v to the earth pin, then have the earth -ve signal to the relay running through the +ve and Acc pins...?

So:

12v: earth signal in
Acc: earth signal out
earth: +ve 12v

That 'should' complete the light circuit assuming you have a negative signal triggering the relay.

What type of switch have you got , are you using a carling switch , mine are all used to switch power and have 3 pins on the back , negative , 12 volt supply and switched active out , my lights all work fine , Cheers Paul.
