16-valve into sierra: Heater Hose Q

About to put the 16-valve engine back into the car but im confused about the heater hose configuration. There doesnt appear to be a connection on the 16-valve inlet manifold for the heater inlet hose like there was on the 8-valve head. The only possibility i can see is at the back of the head, there is a plate bolted on (see pic), should there be a different type of plate which goes here, one with a hose connection for the heater hose to connect to?

I have tried looking for pics but to no avail. Could anyone please help me out and let me know where the heater hose is meant to hook up to, pics would be helpful.

I think that hose will go to your thermostat housing dude,

Mine is a baleno 16v, it has the thermo on the back.
Now, as u have the vitara 16v i dont know where the thermo housing is so u will probably have to get longer hose anyhow.

And the bottom other hose should go to the water pump pipe.

Thermostat housing is on front of intake manifold but there is only one outlet from there, this goes up to the auto-choke in the throttle body.

And i realize the other heater hose goes down to the water pump pipe

I don't know if this is the "right" way to do it, but this is how a guy I know 1.6 was setup. Sorry about the quality of the pic, I think I must have been having a fit when I took the photo. Above the exhaust manifold is a pipe thats been welded up to bolt onto exhaust studs, there is a rubber hose and the front of the engine and another at the rear that goes to the heater core firewall connection

zooker you are right there should be a fitting on that plate that is circled in the top pic, its a real pita to fit a hose to it when the motor is in, you wont fin a hose that will fit.when i did mine i bought 2 different hoses with bends and chopped them up to suit and used a joiner. also put new hoses and clamps that u can get to if it ever leaks.

has any one got a more detailed description of the above pic, as in where to source of what car.
i want to run baleno head and manifold. but there is no thermostat housing at the front, what have ppl done to overcome this?.

The Baleno has its thermostat housing at the back of the head. Do a search or look in The Bible for more info, there is plenty.

yes i did see a pic of the factory baleno one. it points straight into the firewall, which is obviously a problem.
what im after is what ppl have done to make it work in a sierra. close up pics. was it custom or bolt on??

As i said, look in The Bible under 'G16 vitara/baleno/swift engine conversion'

At the top of THIS page is what BlueSuzy did.
I basically cut two bits of 6mm steel using the Baleno thermostat housing as a template, then welded some 40mm rhs coming out the back of the head, up the side then around the front, welded the other flange on, then bolted the original thermostat housing onto that. Hard to explain, i will take some pictures tomorrow when its light. Is only a bodge job until i can be bothered making something neater.

Alright i went out and took some photos (turns out NiMH batts dont like being flat for months on end).

You can see closest to camera the original Baleno thermostat housing and nosecone which i have bolted to the first bodged up flange. Ive also tapped in a sensor for my Speco temp gauge. You can also see the RHS that i cut up and used. Not the best solution, but it works, and knowing me will be permanent.
Below the two temp sensors you can just see the heater hose that goes back behind the engine to the heater core.

cool thanks for that. what engine monts are you using because there is alot of room back there between the head and firewall??

Just using standard mount on one side, and a custom one on the other to move engine, same as everyone else
