I am turboing my tb42 efi with 370,000 odd kays, just wondering
what boost people are running and how long before any dramas ??
I know the td42 will take a turbo at high kays and not die. so am
interested in how long I may get out the tb42.

Mine had about 190,000 on her when i put a turbo on and it went bang after about 800km's.
It shot a rod threw the side of the block cut the sump in half and then out the other side of the block was pretty impressive ,
that was at about 13-14 psi i think

Mine had a set of rings and bearings 40 000 k before the turbo , has had about 30 000 hard kms since with varied amounts of boost up to 15psi , still no probs , It's all in the tuning , make sure thats right and don't push it to extremes should be good .
I run the standard ecu with haltech piggy back , would be able to get more with full ecu but am quite happy with the results i have.
I think mick from superior eng truck had fairly high kms before the turbo went on.

no not sure , it wasn't the tune as i rebuilt the motor and run it in on the same tune and eveything was finechpd80 wrote:so did you get to the bottom on why it happened,
what ecu did you run?
was it dynoed before?
was it just too much boost?

i ran a mircotech ecu and bigger injectors, wouldnt use that ecu again i reckon motec
yep was dynoed before and after to check the tune
dont think it was to much boost as some of the ontrack 4.2's use to run up to 25psi
I now only run mine at 11psi on a fully rebuilt motor and have had no probs

10psi all day every day (car travels a max of 3000km a year), and rpm would be lucky to get over 4, 4-1/2 driving on the street.
built to handle 15psi (has been known to hit 20 on occasions)
oil (penrite), sparkplugs, and all filter (leads if it needs it) every 5000, or if i dont like the look of the oil, or its been worked really hard.
Never let the water temp get right up, and ALWAYS looked after it.
dunno, have a go and see what happens, its not much to chuck a set of crank bearings in and it will last a bit longer. keep your boost down and look after it, but i'd still pull the motor out, check the end caps and make your decision then. A crank grind and some larger race bearings running a weeee bit looser that the factory settings will also help the oil getting onto the bearings surface.

Mine has just clicked over 326,000kms and has had a turbo on it since 285,000. Its running 14psi making 208rwkw on 35's, i drive it every day and never misses a beat. I don't flog it all the time but it takes a fair bit of abuse. Its straight gas so no ecu
gq wagon now a gq ute, straight gas tb42 with a thing on the side that makes it go fast
What ever amount of boost you run make sure you pay a couple of hundred for it to be Dyno'd
There are cheaper options for the ECU as well, a Nistune Daughter board, will run larger injecters, and larger AFM, as this is all in the Nissan ECU all you're other sensors work like they should, and cold\hot starts are no problem either
