water pump leaking 1.3lt Sierra

Post by JacZook »

Hi all
My water pump is leaking from the little hole on the pump. I understand that to mean my pump is stuffed.
My pump is only about 50,000km old from a rebuild I did about 6 years ago.
Is ther anything I can do to make it last a little while longer as I am going EFI?
I really dont want to spend anymore on it than I have too.
cheers

Try using a good quality coolant, changed regularly, it could help.

Tap water can be pretty hard on pumps, so maybe get distilled water, or a coolant that don't need water added?

These are just theories, I have no tech to back it up

cheers

Once the pumps start to go, thats it. That leak from the hole indicates that coolant is getting into your water pump bearings.

yep shes done. wouldnt even bother with chemi-weld or seal up. i have seen people try block the hole off with silo or by tapping some metal in. normally doesnt work.

6 years is alright for a waterpump.

That hole is called a tell tale. It's put there to tell you it's the seal is rooted and it's time for a new pump. Not a hard job, more of pain in the @rse then anything.
