what rim width?

Post by Renton »

ok i've got some 37x14.5x15r creepies on 15x8 external beadlock rims. would the tyres work ok on these rims or would they work better on wider rims? i've heard that the wider the rim the harder it is for the tyre to 'bag out'

i've got some 15x10" rims here that i'd like to use as they have a bigger offset as i need to space the wheels/tyres out a bit further, but want to know if it would be worth the effort to weld some beadlocks on and use them or stick with the current 8" rims and maybe get some wheel spacers.

15 x 10 would be suffice to mount your tyres on mate.

The maxxis web site recommends a 12inch wide rim.

if you already have the 15x10's why not fit them up with the tires and try them??

my rig isn't drivable yet and won't be for a while. i'm looking at off loading one of the sets of rims to fund other bits for it so was hoping someone might have experience with both widths of rim and would be able to advise what works better.

i know the tyre websites always advise to use the widest rim but i still see alot of people out there using an 8" rim. wasn't sure if this was because they work better with a wide tyre or thats whats commonly available.

thanks for the replies so far. anyone else out there have an opinion on this?

I have 35x12.5 and run them on 10" rims, they crowned heaps on 8" ones.

I would say 10" at a minimum

35x12.5's on 15x8's - look at the crowning on em. they would go 10's much better..

Ive got my 37x12.5-16's on 10's and really wouldn't want to go narrower. 14.5's will probably work on 10's but 12's would be nicer, and I wouldn't think of running them on 8's.

Rule of thumb, rim width = (0.7 to 0.8) x tyre tread width.
