i just copped the original thermostate housing and welded it back on the 90deg angle.

jonno

this is from zukicrawlers

heard that with a simple swap of the distributor cap with one from a 323 GTX I did not need to deal with the firewall. It was true, the cap solve all firewall issue. But the cap need a little modification, The inside diameter of the 323 GTX cap is a little bit smaller then the GTI. A little of grinding and the cap fitted perfectly .The rotor must be the one from the 323GTX, because the one from the GTI won't fit properly in the 323 GTX cap. To mount the 323 GTX rotor on the GTI shaft, I took the metal part of a GTi rotor and had it modified to fit the inside the 323 GTX rotor.

Do you have a MK1? I had to elongate the dizzy cap holes about 1-2mm for it to screw onto the dizzy itself..

What setup did you use?

I know this is dumb question, like how long is a piece of string, but what are people paying for a MK1 GTI motor? What’s reasonable should I ask seeing as what someone pay’s is always different to what is reasonable?

I've been looking at putting a 92 zuk motor into a 1958 Ford Prefect, but would prefer a twin cam EFI motor for obvious reason. I already have the five speed etc. This is completely irrelevant I know, but the thread does help. Thanks

Interesting :) Make sure u do a members buildup lol.

i'd be looking for a vitara efi motor maybe. more power and torque unless u want revs?

$$ depends on if frontcut/wreck/long motor and also what state u are in.
NSW or vic seems the cheapest. My vit came from NSW.

it really depends on how much u want to pay and if your willing to risk it!!

i bought a Mk1 motor for $300! and the loom, computer and fuel pump for $120

But this was a tad risky, i had no idea on the condition of any of the components etc... and i was missing a bit of wiring, and the afm but that cost me like $50

turns out they were all spot on components! and when i had the sump off, you could tell it was not long rebuilt!!!

my mate just paid $1500 for a motor computer and loom out of a mk1 with 330,000km and that had been thrashed hard! *HE GOT RIPPED*

but realistically i would say around 1k :)

mine is in and running for under $800! but im cheep!

91 is mk2. You should be able to use stock ecu and loom fine. Only problem i can see is the dizzy, you can't get angle drives for mk2 or 3. The blocks are the same. Mk2/3 are easier to modify for more power too, with chips available to suit bigger throttle bodies, camshafts, higher set limits, more compression and even boost. www.redlinegti.com is the place to research GTi motors.

mk1 gti's where the boxy sa413 gti's that went up to 88 (maybe it was 87)

mk2/3 gti are the more recognisable sf413 swifts

they are fuel + spark ecu, the other difference is the cam gears are wider so they have a different belt

there is heaps of info on quad carbs on redlinegti and on zuwharrie if anyone wants to abandon the ecu

all in all its interesting to see so many gti conversions alll of a sudden, if any of you have round intakes.. rejoice

(and if any off you are rebuilding them before the install, consider a g13a cast crank, it will be 3kg lighter, give you a at least 3nm more torque and will help you with acceleration, who really thinks 6500rpm+ driving is practical in a sierra anyway?)

yeah I'm waiting for ruddy to

I striped the gti motor down today and didnt like what I found the block is all coroded around the pistion sleave looks like I'm going to have to use another block. must be the reason the head gasket was blowen on the gti motor
the Q is can I use a sierra block and will the sierra crank give me more toque down low than the GTI crank is the sierra crank heavyer than the GTI one?

yes you can use a sierra block, in fact if you drive to sydney you can have a bare g13a one for free if you need one (although it would be cool if you use your original block so the engine numbers match the ones stamped in the firewall)

you can also use the sierra crank just dont be spining it pass 6500rpm as mentioned earlier, you should get more overall torque as well as down low, and better enngine response

the sierra crank is 7kgs, the gti is 10kg

in my enthusiasm on my crank rant i forgot to add this info:

mk2/mk3 blocks have addittional bolt holes (for acc )

mk2/mk3 comps are diffent, one being 128k, the other 256k, so mk3 ecu work on mks 2 but not the other way

There seems to be nothing online.
