I need new road & 4x4 tyers..Any suggestions???

i have an 80 series cruiser and i need new tires . im not sure weather to get a good set for both road and 4x4ing or get two sets an ok road set and a really good set for 4x4. any ideas??

something from interco, ET's or JT2's, for play.


And whatever you want for daily duty. Maybe BFG muds, sposed to be very long lasting and not useless off road.

I've been running BFG Muddies for 10 years or so, and have found that I average 80 to 100 thousand kms out of a set. As an all rounder, if you don't mind the noise when they wear down a bit, they are great....

Steer away from Mickey Thompsons if you are after reliability and longtivity......Buckshots and Trepadors are now a good option, and have heaps of tread, and their prices are resonable

dont u like mickey t's?? from experience or just what you have heard?
the other ones u said ive never heard of.. (dont really do cars) just drive em. can u tell me more or where to start looking?

Get a set of BFG muddies or Cooper STT's. I don't think you need the hassle of two sets of tyres. Both these tyres will wear well, make very little noise (on-road) and at the correct pressure, be sufficient off-road.

Maxxis makes the Trepador and Buckshot tyres.

A few guys in the comp scene are now running them, and they seem to be holding up quite well.

As for the Mickey T's, yes from experience both in comp and running the tyres to death in various conditions. As a comp tyre, great for a short time, but for any length of time thier compound is too soft, and seems to hate the aussie summer roads

Tell him to man up and get over whatever problem he has with BFG's, they are an excellent tyre. Like I said, BFG muddies or Cooper STT's at the correct pressure will do wonders, get internal beadlocks if you are in doubt and they will get you places.

You can hear horror stories about any tyre or brand, but BFG and Cooper are great tyres and cop a fair amount of abuse off road and still drive around town well.

Listen to what people say. Silverfish has run BFG for years, I had AT BFG's on my 40 for years without 1 puncture. My brother has had BFG muds for 5 years without a problem (1 set). Plenty more will rate these tyres over many years.

"Proper" off road tyres will be crap on road and wear quickly, you decide.

thats why im thinking to get two sets.
and asking opions. im interested in what every one else uses and what they run and there probs or or how fantastic they r. i will b looking in BFG's cause every 1 is saying they r a really good tyre. its good to know ppl r running them with very minimal probs.

silverfish - i googled the maxxis tyres very impressive just gotta find a dealer near home to get a price. r the maxxis long wearing?? i want a 4x4 tyre that'll last as long aS poss specially if paying lots.

ive got a set of maxis buckshots and there a great tyre (for there price) it all depends on how much you would like to spend. if you get two sets you've got the hassle of having to change them every time you go out for a play.

my maxxis buckshots didnt last 40,000kms on a hilux that spent a fair bit of its life on road. Cost me $160 each, lasted 38,000.

My last set of mickey thompson MTZ's got replaced at 40,000kms, still had over 50% tread left (upsized from 31x10.5x15 to 285/75R16) and i was able to sell them for $150 each 2nd hand.

I paid $350 each for my 285/75R16 MTZ's and im expecting around 80,000kms minimum out of them. The buckshots in that size were around $240 each, and if they last as long as my previous set, id be up for $440 in two sets of tyres to get the same life as one set of MTZ's

i recently brought maxxis Trepadors and they are very noisy on the tare, even from brand new. seem good offroad though

I have BFG Muddies, 285/75/16's on my 80 about 14 months now, I travel a lot & go playing on weekends to go fishing and have never had any sort of problem.
I also have a set of The Cooper STT's on my 75ute (same size) for 12 months longer than I've had the BFG's on the 80 and have never had a problem with those either in wear, noise or grip off road.
