I think it is a personal preference. I run a 5-speed behind my 5lt efi 4runner. I had a th-350 but I prefer the 5-speed.
If you are kind to the box then it should be OK ie no 4-wheel burnouts on the road.
Chris.
Price wise the conversaion will cost basicly the same, but a auto is a bit more work as you have to change pedals.
I am putting a VT V6 in my lux as soon as I sell my 2.8 and I will go auto if I can find a 700 out of a VN cheap, but if I haven`t found one by the time I am ready to buy the adaptor then I will just stick with the 5 speed as I have a spare one for if it breaks.
Something to remember with a auto is if you get a flat battery there is no roll starting it.
Also I don`t think the 400 will bolt up to a V6, but I could be wrong, ruff will be able to anwser this 100%

I had a tubo 700 behind a clapped out 308 the auto was great offroad no dodgy hill starts. on the road the auto was great becuase of the 30% overdrive. with such tall diff ratios of the hilux it reaved way too high with the standard 5speed . I babyed the 5 speed not putting my foot down at all and you gassed it blew two 5speeds in a matter of months . Auto all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, auto or manuals? its all down to personal choice, I owned a zook with a Gti motor and 5 speed manual and loved it, now i own a hilux with a inj 5L VS commodore motor with a turbo 400 and love it, the 400 is nice and strong and im happy with the way it drives but i wouldnt mind doing a 700 conversion just for the overdrive factor and also 1st gear in a 700 is slighty lower than the 400.
