has any one ever blown the gasket in the middle of there stering box

is this easy to replace or a big job

its the gasket were the box seems to bolt to gether in the middle

mate just did his the other day.

Its an Oring

U need to remove the box, remove the pitman arm, remove the main shaft, then remove the recirc ball and PS unit as one.

Replace orings and seals as you go.

It is a fairly big job and its a bastard if you do it wrong i.e let all the balls fall out of the nut...

The seal kit costs anywhere between 100 and 150 good luck

Chris, This can be done in the car...Remove steering arm from input shaft on the steering box (mark it so it can be put back onto the same spline) , undo the 4 x retaining bolts (torx bit, I think an 8mm spanner fits), end cap can now be moved out UNTIL you see the O-Ring, remove and replace.....Takes about an hour

explain to me how you change the oring when there is a shaft in the middle mate?

Edit:

Oh u stretch it over the housing and down onto the seal groove.

Sheesh i didnt know they they stretch that far...

Worth a shot if it works mate.

Bingo...you don't have to stretch it very much at all...I have done it once on the car like this and once on the bench on a spare box I had...Just make sure the O-Ring is not twisted...
