MK aftermarket leafs on MQ... front eyes dont have rubber...

Post by Vanne »

Hi, :)

ive just got myself 2 new front leafs for my MQ, just to lift the front to where the rear is sitting. :)

thing is, there from an MK, ie the front eyes on the leaf dont have the larger round eyes to fit the neophrene bushes in, but its got the round steel roller in there (from the looks of it will fir straight into the shackel bolts on the MQ though)

will this baby fit straight in? or will i have to mod the neophrene bushes to fit?

also, its got NISS-003 written in yellow on the leafs, whats that mean? does this id the brand? height?

cheers for any info :)

NISS-003 is the part ID number, if you ring the manufacturer they will be able to give you specs, now i belive Mq's had rubber bushes, and MK's had some sort of steel, but im sure if im incorrect some one will correct me,

Yeah MK's had the ceramic / steel metal sheath bushes and the MQ's have the rubber ones.

Your having a similar problem to me, i cant put my orginal spring shackles back on cause the springs are from an MK later model.

cheers,

Don't know about MKs but had 2 MQs 81 had metal bush straight shackle round head lights
84 has larger width and diameter poly bush stepped shackle square head lights. could thay be early MQs

Just on this one lads,

Is one spring longer than the other on the front?

...cause i'm thinking this might be the reason my truck doesn't sit straight

Nissan had about 6 variations of MQ/MK springs.
Generally MQs pre 1984 had steel top and bottom on front shackles.
MKs had steel on chassis and Rubber on spring.
After market ie. OME had a larger Urethane bush at front of leaf for more flex.

the bushing is oil impregnated bronze. very cool stuff as long as it isn't used for suspension bushings!

good bushings to use if you want a joint with very little deflection. shackle/chassis joint for a track bar/torque rod maybe?

Thanks for the info guys, i stuck the new ones on the front just to see how high the ride was, turns out, there lower than my old ones anyways. so i proberly wont be using them.

maybe ill keep them as spares?

You can use them, you just need to get the MK shackles. After having one with steel bushes top & bottom in a MQ & then a MK with the rubber bush on the spring was much better. BUy genuine shackles or ones made for hardcore stuff. The plain aftermarket ones from china or somewhere like that are terrible as they fall apart when you start flexing them

Hope it helps

Got the same problem with my 87 ute. Got new front springs (NIS 003) Came with steel bushing (original was rubber). Less camber than old springs. mechanic managed to fit it on old shackles. Thinking of going to metal bushings or may have a spring man alter spring eyes to fit bushing.

Educate me, what exactly is the difference between an MK and an MQ? I've seen them pretty much universally paired/interchanged until this thread.
In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.

MQ is first generation and MK is second. MK is a little bit more modern and has few more luxeries. Also MK had some more options. MQ has 4spd and MK has 5spd, usually any ways. Other than the springs you won't find a hell of a lot different on them other than the expected stuff. Such as motors different to the 4spd vs the 5spd and so forth. 12v to 24v but that not specific to the models just how they are outfitted.

I am sure there are a few small things but so far my 86 parts book doesn't show much and it shows 600 pages worth of stuff. But I am by no means a MQ/MK expert...
