Another driveshaft question
What's the best option for a rear driveshaft in a hilux? One piece or two? If you go one piece is it worth/necessary having a double cardin joint at the gearbox end? What is everone else running?

I suppose that it's worth sticking with the two piece until I get dual x cases as I'll have to shorten then and go to one piece. Any thoughts?

I have up untill today thought that 2 piece was better as it keeps most of the shaft up higher, but today my rear shaft shit its self again Yep the old centre bearing is rooted completly this time round . So within the next week or 2 I am getting a one piece made with a cardan joint in it. Now since you are meant to have the 2 flanges at the same angle and mine aren`t I`m just going to put a cardan in there so it is write the 1st time round.

im doing the same thing, it is a good way to gain some clearance and some strength
i have destroyed shafts, unis, yokes, pinons, and other stuff! and bad rockrash on my splined section, but two tonnes of cruiser landing on it, and getting it, and no worries, so i dont think a light hilux will break it!
also the hilux has the same splined section as a cruiser (hilux just has MORE spline (longer travel)
hands and mums dont count!!!
140 is plenty. :wink:
But I'm sure you'd crawl over most boulders 8)

but seriously....I'd say that I'd prefer NOT to go over 140 anyway. My probs come from acceleration, & above 60 at times. i don't have a A frame to stop difwrap either but at the sametime it shouldn't play a part on cruising.
i wonder if a ifs cardon would be enough angle cause they'r more restricted . if it does it gives me more options thats all

i run a 1 peice with a double cardin up top and the spline down the bottom also and have yet 2 break it its got plenty of dings and scraps and that but no vibs at any speed or acceleration its gr8, but yes i am runnin a solid front cardin joint as there is more movement but in the rear of a lux if u point the pinion at the t/case so as the bottom uni is straight and all the angle is in the cardin ( thats how mine is) u will find that an ifs cardin may work as mine dont move that much wen it travels..
