is the ford 302 bolt pattern the same as the new 5.4 xr8, i have came across a old bellhousing for my 45 but im not sure if it will accomodate the newer style engine, and if so whats the better ford engine to go for

not 100% sure but if memory serves me corectly the new v8 uses the windsr bolt pattern

Hixi, ford in the US had all bell housing to block bolt patterns the same. This was for six and eight cylinders engine families so that they could use anything in anything, was a corporate standard ( makes it cheap to manufacture). This was the position when I worked for them, cant see them changing from this as a standard. The new motor is a lot wider across the top than the old.

Windsor and Cleveland have the same bellhousing pattern.

I believe the pattern is the same but the dowels are in a different spot and the starter is on the out side of the bellhousing not from the engine side
