Twin Snorkels on 80 series, is it possible??

Post by Mosko111 »

hey guys, a mate of mine as an 80 with the 4.5 petrol turboed, he was running a single safari type snorkle with his old turbo but has since out a new turbo in and it isnt getting enough air, now what we are running is it possible to find two identical snorkels out there where one can run on the left and right hand side of the vehice?? ive told him to get some custom stainless ones made up he could just plumb them in himself, what are youre thoughts on the matter at hand? cheers mosko

And plumb it from one side of the engine bay to the other? seems a bit odd, what is the tubro inlet 3.5- 4 inch max? just run a 3.5inch single stainless/alloy snorkel

yeah mate, thats what i told him, but he wants to do things the hard way and to be different, i rekon a single stainless snorkel on a dark blue 80 cut into a ute would look pretty sweet, but hes a fool

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!

twin snorkels = massive wank factor

check the std air box and intake plumbing between snorkel and airbox for restrictions and also from air box to turbo

The nissan guys were looking at this (i think also in the gen tech section) but basically a 4" snorkel flows an enormous amount and would be far better than twin safari's which i dont think you can get for the passenger side. You would have to graft a GQ or similar on.

How do you know its not getting enough air? The 80 air inlet setup is quite large and unrestrictive, just make sure there is nothing hiding down (dont laugh! has happened before) the snorkel and the intake 'spinner' has been removed.
Cheers,
Dan.

he pulled the snorkel of and gave it a clean so didnt find anything in there restricting it, and he whacked a pod filter in the engine bay and it runs sweet now, so yeah as i told him straight away and you guys have confirmed, a nice single stainless snorkel would do the job quite nicely
