Post by mellows40 »

G`day guys,

I just bought an ARB air compressor... but the wiring is not as simple as I thought... the assembly instructions ... are pretty complicated for someone like me who is not very good with electrical stuff... can any-one help with the wiring guide for idiots?... or should I get help fron an auto elec?

it shouldnt be to complex mate. it probably just has a few way it can be setup.

can youpost pics or labels of what you do know.

has it got a relay included? is that why it looks less straight forward?

im assuming it came with this info?

http://www.arb.com.au/resources/pdf/airLockers/3-04.pdf

break down each part of the system so you can look at it on its own to simplify it, then mesh your systems together. if that makes any sence. I often find if i look at the whole diagram i go boggle eyed, but really wiring is fairly clear cut, when you break it down.

or if you dont feel confident give it to me  and save your self the stress. ha ha

just look at what you need ie bat wires, switch wires, light wire.
it not to hard but as hanko said if you look at all of it at the same time it can get to much.

ok, so without lockers ignore the following bits.

switch 1
switch 2
solenoid 1
solenoid 2

So that leaves you with s fairly straight forward system

does it come with a wiring pack with plugs fitted already or do you need to fit up you plugs?

or do the plug all come with their own loom that you need to splice together?

either way with those other switches out of the way its just a dash switched + ignition switched relay system. and the relay is also connected to the 2 sensors.

not too bad, let us know how you go

IIRC you get switches for the locker and a cover for front and rear in each locker kit ie 1 switch and 2 cover plates a box , however i figure what your saying is dont pull things apart twice and fit all the switches in there wich i could not agree with more.. i did this with my install , i planned to do the cvs and such soon after i baught the locker so i waited till it was apart to install the front and same for some work to the rear , i did the compressor install and all relevant switches saved me having to do it when id put the centres in.

Switches are about 10 dollars each i belive i usedto work for arb and thats about what it cost me iirc it saves the headache when you install the lockers all you have to do is put the solenoids into the tank , i would suggest about thinking of the location of your compressor in regards to running the locker airlines later too as to avoid bending them too tight causing possible , planning ahead saves headaches later
Beep. Beep. Beep.. Whats that sound? Oh Look Its Just Another ZD30 On A Tow Truck.. =)

What torque? Tighten it till it strips and then back it off half a turn.

Ok gettin the rest of the gear i need as I only intend on puttin in a front air locker, will put in one locker switch straight away... Bloody hell you need to have triple jointed finger tips to put the compressor mount bolts in, have decided to put in a custom made box behind the drivers and passenger seat so it will be easier to fit. Also fit duel battery in there leaving space for a compartment for inflation hoses. it will be one long box running from side to side with three compartments utliizing the empty space behind the bucket seats

Too easy considering I have set up a metal workin shop in my garage!
