Help, My Mates 105 Stops Dead. Just left on Holidays...
My mate has just packed upon a 4 months holiday, got to Alice (2 weeks in) and now his 1HZ 105 series just stops and dosent start. It will start on occasion then stops intermittantly.
He has it in the local diesel shop, they have gone down the glow plugs, compression route, then going to look at pump.
He can pump the fuel primer hard and diesel flows to the pump without the line connected. Fuel is getting to the injector with the line cracked (but how much is unknown).
When it runs, it runs fine, no smoke, no loss in power, no noises or rattles (that not normally there for a diesel), then it just stops like the keys have been turned off.
What can cause this?? Any ideas appriciated.

GO the 80...The mods have started :-)
Well compression is fine but now the diesel guys says that fuel cut soleniod is most likely the culprit but to get it off, the soleniod is held on with security screws and you cant get to the wiring as its glued together or something.
Then the good bit, he says that the fuel soleniod is "keyed" to the ECU as its part of the security of the car and not only does the pump have to come out, but if the solenoid needs to be replaced, the ECU does as well.
Is this right or a load of BS. That level of security in a 1HZ 105???

Yep that's right, mine had the same deal but i just pried off all the plastic, broke out all the circuitry with a hammer and screwdriver, worked off the clamp and security screws, then what was under it is the normal shutoff solenoid.
You can go this rout and just supply the solenoid with accessory power as i did.

might be worth checking simple things first. Mine was sucking in air at the fuel filter and it would stop dead. pump the primer pump and it would run for a little while then die again.
Im pretty sure the hand primer pump should be hard straight away if the injector pump is primed/free from air
its worth asking the same question at lcool - 100scool

stops dead
Could be wrong but iam pretty sure they also cut out if there is low oil pressure. Might be worth while checking that also
cheers
