tb42 turbo gas ignition??
tb42 turbo gas ignition??
im just about finnished my turbo gas research set up and i think my piranha ignition has shoit itself just wanted some feed back on ignitions iv been searching forever and cant seam to get anywere, how would the petronix 2 with a procomp pc-91 high output coil go?
mate you dont have to go that extreme, have you got your dissy recurved to suit? i gather you do, if you do a crane cams hi6 spark enhancer piggybacked off a petronix ignitor will do wonders for your engine, you will find power you didnt know you had, if you dont have it recurved how ever get the hi6s i think it is, has optional map sensor and boost retard settings for the ignition. im running one i got from the states (import power model) and i think its by far the best mod i have done, just waiting for my gas kit so i can fit the turbo, but its definatly the way you want to go!
on its own the petronix kit has a low output , and even with a good coil the spark isnt that fantastic. but with one of these enhancers, its a biiiiig bright blue spark
food for thought anyway:D

thanx heaps for the quick replys. i dont have my dizzy re-graphed as yet but i was planing on running it like it is with a good ignition system then down the track get a cam, valve springs another gas converter the dizzy re-graphed and up the boost. iv seen the ice ignition on here a bit and there hasn`t been a bad thing said about them, ill cheak out the other options and compair them all. cheers guys
dansedgli wrote:How would you fit a 36-1 trigger wheel to a tb42 to run the edis system?
get an old EF or AU balancer from a wrecker. machine the wheel off and have tig welded to the TB balancar.
the same way people have been fitting them other engines for years.
then just buy the megajolt that uses RPM vs MAP for it's tunning.
after going to the time effort and money of turboing the thing, i can't understand why anyone would cut the setup short by trying to use a dissy with a mechanical advance.

I've just watched intently while mine (with a haltech e6x) was tuned on the dyno and its amazing how important the tuning between rpm, fuel, boost, intake temp, exhaust temp, and timing ALL working together.
There is sooooo much more to it than upgrading just one of the components to make it all work.
Dont mean to be a party pooper but just wouldnt like to see it go bang.
Exactly right, without retarding your timing in relation to boost it will detonate and eventually go boom !!!!!the problem is a regraphed dizzy doesn't know what boost is.

done right i don't see mud as a problem. done poorly, it's a tow truck waiting to happen.dansedgli wrote:Do you think mud would bother those sensors? They are fairly out in the open on a falcon.
I had a microtech from my EF and thought about fitting it using a falcon ignition setup but put it in the too hard basket and sold the ECU.
the ford 36-1 crank sensor has always been a pain to get working cleanly with the likes of microtech wolf ect.
the megajolt however, uses all ford parts. the control box tells the EDIS module when to fire. you can actualy get the EDIS to run with fixed timing with out any ECU or controller fitted.

neither, use a crane XR3000KYSI wrote:quick questions for you boys in the know, im running the ice coil, and buying a petronix ignitor next week, question is which ignitor will be better for me number 1 or 2, im planning on racing my truck and nothing else

I spoke to these guys and they sold me a crane HI6 that does timing retard on boost triggered by the pertronix that I have already.BowTieGQ wrote:Speak to Performance Ignition Services in Nunawading, especialy since you've got it turboed.
I got my turbo conversion running today and with the 1 trip around the block I did with no exhaust on 5 psi it seems fine.
SWB mav. Some mods.
There is no point getting an XR 3000 as he alreaddy has a module in the ICE ststem, all you need is the petronix to replace the points, a trigger. Get the later one that triggers from the distributor cam as it is the siplest to fit an has no additional parts.brad-chevlux wrote:neither, use a crane XR3000KYSI wrote:quick questions for you boys in the know, im running the ice coil, and buying a petronix ignitor next week, question is which ignitor will be better for me number 1 or 2, im planning on racing my truck and nothing else

The ICE system is the highest output, it has won on engines in the Masters Engine Competition in the USA, is on one of the fastest VLs in the country and can support 10 000 rpm in a methanol V8.

he only said he's got an ice coil. no mention of a CDI,
the pertronix don't like a drop in battery voltage, i've a few car through work that has suffered from it. the things will crank and crank but not fire. an that from a drop to only 8V, for a 9V system. coulds very easily happen on a weekend away.
the crank unit doesn't suffer like that. the XR3000 is a proper 12V system. dont need that, use an XR700, at least you know it will start when you need it to.
i've only ever had one crane unit fail. that was due to a custom changing the wiring after i fitted it. the XR700 will not last with 12V

Sorry, thats not it, It's a smaller unit. You don't need all the fancy high output stuff as hats already done by the ICE, all you need is a trigger.KYSI wrote:im settled on the petronix one, just needa find out which one best suits what im after before i order it.
So joel hurry up and read this!! haha
I think it is the 2, makes sense the 1 being the reluctor wheel type that meant grinding the dist shaft.
Cheers

i still don't see anywhere he has stated he has anything other than an ICE coil.PGS 4WD wrote:Sorry, thats not it, It's a smaller unit. the XR700 or Ignitor will not perform as well as an XR3000 or the Ignitor 2 or 3.
UNLESS he can confirm he is running some form of ignition amplifier. in which 'upgrading' from points isn't going to help anyway. when used to trigger a CDI they last for ever. His money would be better spent making sure his dizzy is %100 perfect with the correct end float and no slop in the shafts. ensuring spark is going to happen with it's meant too.
