well fellas... the extractors wont get here in time sadly so i went ahead and got one other project out of the way... the electric fan... wow what an improvement..... free revs alot easier and noticed it responds better... hopefully this will help me on my trek, which i start on wensday. will leave one last post tomorrow nite before i pack up my computer...

It amazes me the people who claim that an electric fan will make no difference to the engine power over a viscous coupled one..... It makes a huge difference! Plus the engine sounds a lot better without all that fan noise.
So what size fan did you use PV? Hopefully a big one so you don't have the cooling dramas I did with my first electric.

Electric fan on F300
Hi guys,
for sure an electric Fan has big advantages compared to a fluid driven fan.
( As long as the electric fan is waterproof to also withstand rivercrossings)
Cost less fuel also.
I have a cheap solution on my Feroza at the time: I fixed a yellow plastic fan, which originally belonged to a SEAT Cordoba (Spanish Volkswagen).
Put the thermal switch on top of the pipe which runs over the extractors, switch is from Volkswagen as well and has 3 switchpoints ( off, 82 and 95 deg.C.)
This Fan has so much power, it sucks a cat thru the grille at idle........
OK, passengers are jumping aside, when this fan starts working, I will have to modify it again before the weather gets warmer here.
Will try to get a Mercedes A/C fan from our local car wrecker, this one has very low noise and is very effective at low amps. But hard to find as a used part even here in Germany.

i'm not sure david... not big enough for my taste personally but i only paid $20 bucks for it... works a real treat for now. will be upgrading to a bigger, flex fan after my move sometime. but for now this'll do. only one switch, on and off.... the one thing about this fan i like is that it's loud... so i know if i left it on.... that way it doesnt drain my battery... but i tell you what, got on the free way for the first time today after the fan got installed and also did some city driving... alot more responsive to accelerating and change of gears, i love it! i got the uhaul trailer and wow... i notice more torque! i can also drop the rev down around 100 rpm and depending on which gear i'm in... even as much as 200 before i start lugging!!! has its really given me an edge...

You'd have the normal viscous hub fan- that's what the shroud fits around.
To change over to an electric thermo fan is a fairly involved job and requires fitting an electric fan to the radiator, lots of wiring and mounting a water temperature sensor somewhere to control the fan.

well david... not quite... i jus simply installed a toggle on/off switch for the fan...works for me... jus cant forget to turn it on/off... heh. works a treat!
