Transmisson question 80 series

Post by simkell »

Is there a difference between automatics fitted to a 3f-e petrol engine and the diesel variants. I am considering ripping the old 3f-e out to put in either a turbo 1HZ or a 1HDT, but I am not sure if the transmissions are interchangeable. It would be nice if they only need a bell housing change, but I am not sure. Thanks all in advance.

The box in the 3fe is thesame box as in the 1fzfe and later turbo diesel, a bllhousing and converter will have it bolted to a diesel, then you need a computer to tell it to change earlier from a diesel, although, the 3f wasnt a good rev box, so computer might suffice...

thanks mate, i was hoping it was going to be as simple as that, but being toyota it could of been controlled by the engine's computer making the conversion a little harder. Thanks again, much appreciated.
