opinions on getting two sixtys

Post by Wambat »

hey fellas,

tonight at night school i was joking around with my teacher who is a car freak and has a sixty as a daily, jokingly i asked him when he was ready to sell me it. another bloke chimped in saying who wands landcurisers, i got two i want to get rid of.

fella told me the condition is as follows, one had a good condition motor, with a really shit body, rust has set in, only things that are any good are the doors and mechanicals, the other has a great body, but the motor is only running on 5 cylenders, he reakons it is something to do with the head, but we all know it could be anything,

he said he would be happy with two grand for both together, i was thinking best to get the good bodied one and take the head off the other one,

but then i was remnbering what i put my old sixty through, and having a compleate mechanical second set of parts from basicaly stripping the shitty dodied sixty, (and changing my driving style) would be a very good idea. specialy as having two diff housing i could strenghtan them, having another set of cvs( i know they are cheep) a second gearbox and transfer, would all be benificial.

i could sell what ever else is left, like doors and windows(or keep incase i hurt the ones i have)

what are other peoples opinions on this????

(also if any one remnbers my other thread asking some questions i mentioned being out of work. i am no longer out of work, i am working again as a hydraulic fitter)

thanks fellas, your opinions would be much appreciated...

sorry fellas, forgot to mention i dont have a hell of alot of room, the girlfriend has said keeping one at hers is fine, and i could keep the prettyer(as mum is the type to look at the exterior) at home(and yes i am still living at home so gotta abide buy her standards) while i strip what i want out of the shit one, then scrap the shit one, and store the parts at home( i can store stuff as i have room under the house.

i dont get it, how can 2 grand be too expensive, when with the two, i pull the good motor and put it in the good bodied, essentially the one good one that dirty rock star suggest i buy for 2500.

then i still have a second gear box, and transfer, front and rear diff, and cvs, and steering equipment, as back up. and front doors. of which if i was going to buy even second hand, would cost me at least 2 grand on its own.

with the set of diffs i could pull from the one with a rusty body, i could strengthen the outer casing, and get ready for putting under the other one when the time comes.

the truck its self is going to be bush only, and driven hard, i expect to break some things(only because of previous experience) that i will need to replace before i can afford to put better bits in.

ie i would rather have a complete mechanical set sitting there, so that if i destroy a diff center, or axles or cvs, i have a set ready to go in, so that i dont have to fork out for longfileds straight away.

if they were both absolutely shit house i would agree, but if one has a good body and one has a good motor, then they are esentialy the 2500 good one i would go buy, with a full load of spare parts waiting to get tricked up.

i dunno, maybe i shouldn't look at it from the point of view that i am going to break everything, but i did last time, i have already owned a sixty, that i done two rear diffs, a transfer and a gearbox and the front cvs, not to mention brake lines in.... albeit cause of a breather problem, but still having a second truck there with spares, i see the handiness in that. and i think being some one that dont know the people to get some of that shit from cheep, it would cost me more than 2 grand just to have a whole second mechanical set sitting there.
