Supercharge - 2.8d hilux

Post by HTH »

I am currently in the process of turboing my 2.8hilux with a ct20 turbo kit from a toyota surf and was wondering if there are any supercharger kits for the 2.8 lux or any that suit?

(1) what are the advantages/dis-advantages of superchargers?

(2) Are they the same amount of work to set up as turbo's?

(3) any ideas on what supercharger would work?

(4) prices on superchargers?

super chargers dont spool up the way a turbo does so pressure is available pretty much all the way through the rev range, but your using engine driven power to turn the compressor.

The set up is fairly basic. make a bracket to mount your compressor. add a pully on the engine crank to run it off. fab up a tensioner. make up a pipe to run the air to the intake manifold and put a belt on it and go test it out.

you change the pulley size to alter the pressure pumped out. superchargers are probably a little more interchangable that turbos as you dont have exhaist manfolds to deal with.

theres no reson it wont work. i would go a kit from Raptor and modify it to suit. or cheap option source a charger from either 4agze or these a larger unit on a toyota 6 think the engines a 2L. if you have a/c use the brackt where the compressor sits prob some small fab on the bracket. fit a intercooler where the condensor goes somthing small , skyline unit or similar ever a supercheap wank speical cut your grill up. plumb the piping. 8 psi pully using the spare a/c pully on the front of the balancer. away shes goes.

an sc14 off the 1ggze.... cheap from any import place, a kit of any kind is probably similar in simplicity blowers dont need the exhaust manifold, dump pipe etc that a turbo does, but the more air in the more air needs to go out.

Low boost shouldnt need intercooling, but if you can afford it its best to, the colder the intake temps the better. colder air = more oxygen = more power.

Castlemaine rod shop sell alot of mounting and supercharger kits for alot of motors.

Diesel turbos come on almost instantly anyway, with no power drain off the crank, so a blower is not the most efficient option.

Imo turbos are superior haha its just my imo that the oldschool have used blowers so it continues on, they're not allowed to use them in most hi end drag racing categories etc so the option is not available.

If you mean twin charging, id just get a bb turbo and would achieve a similar result without the headaches of just another thing to go wrong in the middle of nowhere.

if you choose the correct turbo, there is no such thing as spool...

Its always spooled :finger:

A correctly matched/setup turbo is your best option. I always hear people talking about supercharging their diesels but never hear of great results. Go with what's proven, unless you really want a blower.

i have a ct20 turbo ready to bolt up.
just seeing what ppl thought of the supercharging option..
main reason was that it was always on so more torque low down.

but as its been mentioned it takes power from the engine.
so many the turbo is the best option.

WHAT TURBO GIVES THE BEST FIGURES.. NM.. KW.. ?? and spools fast??

Yes a blower is always on, but its relative to the rpm the turbines are doing, at idle its barely producing positive pressure. a matched turbo will win hands down as its not draining power from the crank as said above.........

im assuming that it would be the same for the 2L (2.4lt) diesel as well
