how many klm's has your zd30 done? and how is it going?

Post by burleygu »

ok guys yes i know there are numerous topics about zd30 failures and what klms they have blown up at. however i ask the above question to perhaps get more of an insight to how everyones or other ppls zd30s are going and how they are performing at there current klm's. for instance i have a 2003 gu patrol zd30 and it now has 226xxxklm's on it bog stock. also it was a ex government car from townsville full service history from the same nissan dealer up to 196xxx kmls then i bought it. and atm i am very happy with how its performing tow'd a hj45 cruiser on a car trailer from kilcoy to caboolture no dramas whatsoever i wouldnt even say it struggled. another example is my old man bought his 98 model gu wagon brand new and his zd30 was bog stock and lasted till 320xxx klms before it blew no.3 piston. now this engine had a hard life serviced whenever it just happened towd bobcats un car trailers day in day out 2 cape york trips etc.

so just a random question to see how everyones ' time bomb's ' as people refer to them are going :)

While there are failures they dont all crap. I would be interested to see what ratio fo vehicles sold to how many blow up would be.

There are plenty around.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............

359 000k

Running 20psi for the last 180 000k, 3" exhaust, tune, 35" tyres.

Mum drives it as a DD but she often comes out for a 4by with us, shes a throttle jockey just like me...

She even ran it in the last Mud guts and glory we had in WA, thrashed the guts out of the engine. Still runs great. (but its had its fair share of problems, noting major)

As stated by mkpatrol ,there are plenty getting around.Every second grey nomad towing a van during tourist season has one.

In the town I live approx 3000 people there's been 8-10 that have shat the tin in the last 18 months, mine included. We all have now fitted 6.5 litre chev diesels.

Mine's an 02 model at 100700k's it shat the head between 3+4 pots,at 112500 it shat a fuel pump.That was it for me,in went a chev-not cheap though $24000.

The majority that have failed in my town have been fuel pumps,heads-causing other issues.

Hi burleygu, as you would know, the problems that remain on these motors are due to the ECU being fed bad information from its sensors.

Fitting EGT and boost gauges counteracts this problem, I asked a similar random question on another forum - here is the link showing the k's that some of these motors have traveled http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showpost ... ostcount=1

apart from the auto frying on last on at 102 000 :D reversing cold up my nearly vertical driveway every day for a couple of yrs may may not have contributed :D

and shite you can actually confidentially overtake unlike its fatter brother...

ive heard numerous things about the autos failing. thing is my old mans gu now has 570xxx klms on it with the same auto box the internal cooler in the radiator shit itself for the trasnmission filling the auto box with oily water etc drained it changed the oil etc still going strong. i guess it is a case that so many reports of the bad reasons were bought to everyones attention but i guess as the above member wrote would be interesting to kno the percentage between good and bad ones.

Bought ours new in May 2001. It now has 170k on it. Only replacements have been 2 batteries, only repair to the alternator.

Otherwise it has truly been faultless.

That's my experience, I realise that it falls outside the 'all is doom and gloom with the ZD30' Club.

Old man has about 6 Navaras with ZD30's the one with the most km's would be up to 250,000 odd and never had a problem.

Mines got 74,000 odd on it no dramas, and the other boys ones have a fair few with no dramas
