Rocky F75 Spring over conversion
Well I searched rocky spring over and had no specific results so I thought i'd start a topic to pick and prod at the subject to get some good info off this knowledgeble community of daihatsu'ns.
I would love to venture into a spring over conversion on my f75 rocky as ive owned hilux's b4 and love the clearance associated with such suspension. I also know of the downsides as I nerly rolled my lux diagonally over the front left mudguard down a steep hill.
All i'm asking is if you know anyone who has done this or something similar , just let me know what you think etc etc .
I measured up hilux diffs and they should fit (spring perch wise). I like hilux diffs cause they can be upgraded a hell of alot if need be . Just dont know about steering etc .
Any help woudl be great.

I have done the conversion with hilux diffs and is good once it is done. I am actually looking to sell my full conversion if you are interested as i have a pair of GQ diffs i want to put in it.
It has a high steer arm with moddified steering arm to match the rocky steering box to hilux hi-steer. It has a balanced rear tailshaft matching the rocky transfer to hilus diff flange. The only things that are needed are new shocks and either fit the front tailshaft spacer as the shaft was a little short and i sheared the splines on the first tail shaft or get a modified tailshaft made.

Don't know if u noticed it was a pita reversing the ledge but i had to put some stones to drive up forward so that i dont have to charge and risk killing myself in the process lol.
U still have the Rocky or u've moved on?
Still have lots of work to setup the suspension.
Rear is too hard.
Also the car is too darn tall....
I don't know if i did the right thing of reusing back my leafsprings from the Hilux instead of the rocky as the mechanic was really worried of axle warp.
Most likely i'll pull out one of the leafs in the rear.
Any comments Bundy on my build up?

yup i still have a Rocky Detroit Locker for sale. As for the rims, i assume yours are the late spec IFS, rear coil Rocky rims right? I used to have a set of them b4 the conversion.
As for the Hilux axles i'm running LSD front and LockRite rear.
I'm running the original MT117s coz no $ to run XT Centipede because the export market made it too expensive for us locals lol.... Silverstone Sports only come max 33s and are radials. I didnt want to go MT117 XTs because they are more expensive than my sneakers, they wear faster, and they are essentially 34s instead of 35s. Plus i'm not going for competition. I just need the clearance, not the traction.
Yeah there are a few tracks in malaysia but no rock crawling, fire trail sort of tracks i notice in Oz. U guys down under get lots of variety. Over here Zooks, BJ40s, Rockys, LCII (4 door Bundera) are popular coz they fit our tight trails

I reckon your leaves are way too stiff. The front on shot, with one front wheel up on the ledge, shows the front axle almost the same angle as the bodywork, which means you have no flex. The rears are almost as bad. Overall, that means that as soon as you get body twist, one or more wheels are going to lift off the ground, and you lose drive.
Look at maybe less leaves, or more flexible leaves.
Any springover is going to be too tall, made worse if you use lifted leaves. The narrowness of a Rocky exacerbates the issue.
Trial and error is your best friend, as you are working in areas that few others have.

As for lockers i don't have a problem with it as i enjoy drifting to begin with.
My complain is i dont have enough power to break traction in the dry.
I prefer the Detroit as it's smoother and not so noisy.
I don't do competitions to begin with so i'm cool with an autolocker.
I probably spent more time sliding on tarmac than going offroading on the Hilux b4 the conversion lol.
Only thing i didnt get the chance is to do those arabian nonsense of driving the hilux on 2 wheels on the highway... i guess i was too scared of testing the rollcage and killing myself in the process lol...

-Also did you have to move the spring perch's/mounts on the diff (front or rear)?
-This is a high steer front end too isnt it?
Looks really good, though the extreme hight might attract a little too much of the wrong attention round here

Yeah the mech moved the mounts for the rear.
Front is still the same.
U can say its a high steer.
I know its too tall.
Will figure out later how to go about lowering it.
Sometimes i wonder if i did the wrong thing by going SPOA instead of SPUA as i was concern that in the mud that SPUA seem to dig into everything together with the diff pumpkin.
Pics, long way to go but will update where ever i can.

Have pretty much changed my mind about re-chassising my old Roza and have been looking at Rocky wagons, loved the idea of chopping one into a Pick up/ute, fit hilux axles and lockers, yeeehaaaa
