G`day,
My 40 has a bash plate under it as standard .. It got bashed pretty bad, but it did protect the g/box and t/case. I`m trying to fab a heavy duty bash plate at the moment and would love to see how yours turns out .. if you do put one on...
My original one uses 2mm black steel. Which is not nearly strong enough I am trying 4mm black steel plate but that isn`t as easy as you would think... a lot of cuttin and welding needed but I am persevering with it.
When I`m Finished I will post some picks of all the mods I have done on my 40 (if I can prize the camera away from my son long enough)

G`day,
The way I am fabricating it is pretty simple Get under the 40 with cardboard and a pair of sissors make a cardboard template and start cuttin and welding the steel to match the card, making sure the steel matches and goes over the top of the card pattern, then drill the holes to match the chassis holes and .....da-da... one heavy duty bash plate... I mustn`t forget to leave enough clerance between the plate and the gearbox, t/case for a little movement.
I know this will be a trial test and see method but it has worked for me in the past with other things.
