Whilst i am sure that you will get the right answer here, questions like this are always best asked of the relevant authorities. Unforunatley your local copper will not accept "so and so off OL told me" as a defence ;)

215/75/R15 i used to own one but i also ran 235/75/R15 AT's with no trouble at all - been through RBT's, pulled over plenty of times without fuss or questions asked and i was in brisbane..

235's should be fine ;)

with the NCOP, you're allowed 2" lift, be it through tyres or suspension and thats it... after that it must be engineered.

You might want to have a closer read ;) Tyres can be 50mm larger which will provide 25mm of lift and note the use of mm and not inches as it can make a difference on what tyres can be fitted.

i got pulled over on rainbow beach by a rbt with 31x10.5 on f100 rims-15x8s, which sat about 2 inches out of my guards with no flares, they didnt say a thing...

got defected just outside of stockton beach on aust day...lol

changed my rims to ROH 'track 2' they sit nicely now and dont stick out of the guards and have not had a prob with cops...

i have been told 29's legal.

Thanks for the advice. After reading plenty of threads on tyre size over the years, it appears that RBT checks aren't interested in tyre size - they're interested in intoxicated drivers. Not getting pinged for tyres in an RBT doesn't give me much confidence in legality.

Whilst not getting fined might be fine, I'm also wary of where one stands in an accident. I'd hate to void a warranty or be deemed at fault due to incorrect tyre size.

On another note, I've been told (unreliably) that soon in QLD 30 days to repair defect notices will be changed to an on the spot fine. Anyone heard about this?

I guess I really should talk to the Transport Department...

Has it always been that way? I'm fairly oblivious to the rules (obviously), having never needed to worry about them before now.

going from 215 to 235 will NOT be the reason u killed someone in a sierra, it will be your driving, or not paying attention.

to answer question 215/75 is largest legal in qld, which is bs as in nsw or vic i think they can go 30 or 31. prime eg of polititians not knowing what they are doing.

As pointed out by others "legal" and "being let off by a nice copper" aren't always the same thing.

Gumtree is correct. At present Queensland still uses the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety)Regulation 1999

Available here

http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGIS ... VSSR99.pdf

Under this only +15mm diameter is allowed (which would be 215/70/15 by my calculations).

When (if) Qld gov adopts the NCOP without amendments it would go to 50mm as spec'ed by alien&cj.

But in order to check just fill this out and send it in.
http://www.support.transport.qld.gov.au ... 854_es.pdf

you'll get an answer back saying yea or nay and if the decision goes your way you can keep the response (on shiny QLD gov letter head) in the glovebox to display to Mr Plod in the event you are asked about it.

Hope it helps.

in nsw the defect can be 1 day,2, 3, 4,5 days and so on, it depends on the copper.. and most of the time you will not cop a fine...

warranty???? 93 vitara with warranty? i highly doubt it...
