Should I go back to carbs?

Post by N*A*M »

Okay I have an '86 Rangie with factory EFI. I also have a spare 3.5L long engine with complete carbs and some LPG stuff. Should I convert my Rangie back to carby - for reliability and lower costs? I would run it on petrol to begin with but look at putting LPG in later.

What would I need to do for this conversion? Do I need to change the fuel pump? Can I put a non EFI loom in? Does the head need to be swap? What else, cos I have no idea.

What could I expect to sell the factory EFI stuff for?

I dont know that much but 2 points...

1.) legality - it wont be legal due to mods that affect emissions in a negative way.

2.) EFI fuel pumps are high pressure (45psi+), and for carbs they are low pressure, so yes as far as i know they will need to be changed (unless of course rangies are different to anythink else i have ever owned or worked on.)

Nam, my late 85' RR is registered as an 86 model so i dont think it will be a problem, does if have a plastic grill or vertical alloy ? Early 86 efi's looked the same as 85's so as long the swap is not noticeable you should be right.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
