Also with the buggy class, do they compete against everyone else for the same pot of prize money or is there a different set up for them?
Bring Gumboots and a dust mask :)

There were a few wet runs last year that I spectated, a lot more sand, and dirt though. Stage wise it might be a 50-50 split last year?

Mud

Post by Hobzee »

Mud / water will depend greatly upon rain between now and the event. We are off to a great start - farmer was mustering last week and reported issues with not getting access to a lot of areas because of too much water every where. But alas in July it dries up fast and you can expect a lot of dust. It would seem the Mozzy Pit will have water suited to stages even if there is no more rain. Last year that was about 20 feet deep so we left it alone.

But fear not macbeth - we are not up for silly water.

Nice One -

Just a reminder to about 15 people that today the entry fee goes up $300 if you haven't yet paid the balance. (Balance due 31st Mar) I have twisted Rudi's arm to extend a 1 week grace period as well as not increasing it for those who contact us and make a schedulled payment plan or payment date.

Thanks to all those who did pay on time.

Will do shortly Gary. As end of April is cut off date for finalisation of the teams, so we should have our confirmed teams then.

notes

Post by Hobzee »

All preparations well under way.

Have completed the handbooks with all the stage notes, where to meet and when, etc.

Am going up to B'Hill to do OBC over next two weeks and will be meeting with the local helpers - Kevy at West Darling, Neil, Silver City 4WD, Jim the pilot, etc) and finalising arrangements.

Got thumbs up last night from CCDA re emergency procedures, etc.

49 Fully Paid teams and just a few promissed late payers. So work on a field of say 50. I reckon I can weed out 5 on the first night and that then allows 3 groups of 15. Re-grouping Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday you are all together.

There is presently water in the holes. This is normal this early. I think the wetness/dryness will be same as last year.

Got a terrific line up of marshals. Another One or Two experienced marshals with own car would be spot on.

All good.

I think it means the first night is going to be tough. Hobzee can't reply today as he's on his way to the Gold Coast & we leave for Broken Hill on Tuesday but he will have acess to a computor till then.

Ah yes - just ask Phil Swindale - he was "weeded" last year in grand style... We gave him a 9.9 for style and small splash.

No matter how much we warn people about the hazards on opening night we always lose a few trucks. Breaks my heart !!

This ain't no pussy event!!

MY OBC campaign began today. Flew to Qld and met up with Pops. Had a few beers with Sean and Bruce and talked about the old days. I find out now that Pops can't see in the dark ... DOH! Roger Smith wasn't much better! and the best he has is Lightforce 170's (Halogen). Me thinks I had better call the office on Monday and get some HID's sent to Silver City 4WD real fast ... either that or I steer at night..

Yes it is OK with land owners to use the air strip.

The GPS Co-ords for the strip are UTM 679321 / 6567197.

Great List - disappointed that I cannot be there but have come out of retirement and rang Rudi last night and have put entry in for next year already. Going up to watch some of the OBC this weekend which should be fun for the new format. Have a great event.

Now that Hobzee finished with Lawrie in Second Spot at the OBC - maybe he should borrow the Lux and entered his own event. Heard Hobzee, that the Navi only had to winch twice - what a cushie role you must have had - just kidding - well done.

Good to see another Cliffhanger man in Dave Cameron came in third at the OBC and is getting ready for the Cliffhanger. Big task, I have done it the last two years. Well done Dave.

It was a credit to all the "Hangers" in the Outback Challenge doing well.

Not long to go. I'm off in a little over 2 weeks.

We need a stage for presentation and driver briefs, etc as well as a band - I am thinking of a semi trailer with curtain sides. If anyone is thinking about transport and wants a truck or has a truck then let me know - we might be able to contribute to cost if we can use it too for a stage. Ideally we want curtain sides so we can use it as a wind block, etc.

If you are a musician then the idea was raised that we should build a band. Kempie has guitar, Clay is bringing drums. What say we get Rudes on the keyboard??? Can anyone else contribute / participate ?

Give Jeff Redman in Geelong a call. He and Jason managed to keep the car in one piece at Outback Challenge and I think you could twist his arm.

Sorry you can't make it.
