Long travel shock options for hilux

OK... im after opinions from those with modded hilux's running 12" to 14" travel shocks on what brand shocks you have used or are running ...

Post up brand ... size shock... opinions ... the ride/comfort on and off ride etc...

im about to buy a set of shocks so any info would be great

Lift in the truck is another thing to consider, i have 10inchs at the moment which bottom out badly (which is a 4inch lift hilux shock) rancho., but only 2 inchs of lift so it droops a fair bit before bottoming out.

Im about to put some bigg boss shocks in the front, seems reasonably priced and adj not that i really need adj in a hilux but thats how they come, and have "heard" alot of good things about them. priced at $200 a corner.

Rancho, procomp, bilstein, toughdog etc, whatever is cheapest at the time.

i run ranchos cause they where fairly cheep and available in a lot of sizes

just get something resonably cheap and in ur budget thats the best bet, and what most people do including comp guys lol.

haha, hes saying its a hilux, they dont weigh 2500kg, pro comp, rancho, bilstein, toughdog, are all of similar quality for a hilux, whatever is best priced at the time is the best bet is what he was getting at, a useless post is not searching through "the comp truck looking" build up threads.

What sought of hilux is it if it isn't normal, what comps will it enter will narrow it down, will the shocks be doing lots of work over corrogated/ruts at high-speed?, if not all of the above are fine.

Different brands are valved for different weights rigs ... was after info on what different people have used and there opinions on how they work... thats all

Well take rancho for instance, Which i use at the moment, rs5000, they're valved differently for whatever truck you order it for, as im sure other "decent" brand name shocks do the same. So valving is not your issue, researching particular brands/ringing around would have told you this. I wouldn't base a $500-$1000 decision solely on what someone on a forum said, what someone says is good for them might not suit your application/style of driving/competition.

Within the people i wheel with, with hiluxs, most of the above shocks are being used. So while I havnt used them all ive seen/felt how they work in similar modified trucks.

And a hilux shock wouldn't be valved for the extra weight of a v8 motor either.

Thats better ... As you said above you have seen and felt how they ride in other peoples rigs ... dont be shy thats all im after ... who said i was going to base my desicion on what is said on a forum anyway?

im looking at these bilsteins for my lux, the procomp es9000 shocks at 280ish a pair are being run on my brothers lux, it has rears up front and ifs rears with 35s and it rides really smooth on those dirt roads with all the little rocks on them you know the ones about the size of tenniss balls, but yeah back to it the ride nice and theyre gas which i was amazed when i took one off

and yeah again im thinking of using the bilsteins gas 14" ones, at 200 per corner and theyre chrome aswell

IF you want long travel shocks try rears from a GQ patrol for the rear and rears from a 80 series cruiser for the front, they work a treat. I've tried EFS amd Procomp and they seem to work quite well using this vehicle combination

I've used Rancho's for a while now, they're not to badly priced and having adjustables makes them more suited for changing vehicle weights/towing and the V8 up front. Prior to that I ran standard OME 80 series shocks which were ok



I use 9012's in the rear (springs are a 4" lift but are reasonably soft and have had the Cinches opened and extended, plus you need a raised crossmember as pictured)
Can't remeber what the front ones are and don't have a pic but I run duals 1 adjustable and one not adjustable. make for a comfy stable ride even on the putty road
