1HD-FT Running rough somke when cold ????

Post by lokka »

Gday Guys can anyone help out with this drama old man tells me the 80 i8s running with a sorta miss and blows abit of black somke (more than usual) on start up from cold he rekons its got a miss of some sort which all but goes away once the engin has warmed up he rekons its running ok but has a verry slight miss once warmed up and the smoke goes away once its warmed up ...

The truck has a Jap spec !HD-FT which is basicaly standard we made a few adjustments about 12months back to improve off boost and make it spool up quicker but i cant see that causing this issue any advice would be great :D
Cheers

Check the fuel lines. Especially wherever they meet/join at the injector pump. Make sure everything is tight. Look for fuel leaking from anywhere. If fuel is getting out, air is getting in. When was the fuel filter changed last? Make sure the seal is clean and it is on tight.

And drain the fuel/water seperator.

Were leaning more towards a dirty/worn injector giving a dodgy spray when cold then improving once warm going to give it a dose of CEM fuel treatment decarbonizer and see how that goes :D
