mates looking at buying a 2004 or 2006 ford explorer for his missus(she wants it not him)
are there any inherrent(sp?) problems with them?

The auto's have problems mostly with the convertors bad news is same 5 speed in the ranger and FG falcon, The transfer case suffers with chain and to much end float problems,diffs are bad for crown wheel and pinions and the engines have problems with timing chains (no timing marks) need special tool to set them up

if it makes any difference this thing will never be used as a serious 4wd gravel roads at best......

That's a good thing probably, however I think driving in general is their weakness...
Even a Territory is better than an exploder...

she has a rangie now and it is nothing but problems.......
problem is the explorer is being offered at trade in price from a friend(same way she got the rangie......)
she gave up a perfectly good gq for all this too. lol....

so the dealer was desperate to get rid of the rangie, and its been shite, and now they are desperate to get rid of another car with known typical issues...

freinds- different ones each car upgrading to something else and offered the cars at what they have been offered for trade in.
but im with you on the sentiment of it..........

Don';t know of any problems with them.

But they are a F250 Chasis with a wagon body and a smaller motor than the F250 range like a 5ltr V6 petrol or a 5ltr turbo V8 turbo diesel at the largest where as the F250 has a 7/8ltr turbo V8 diesel.

So could look up F250 forums etc for details
