buyin my frst gq shorty and want 2 put a 3'' lift but im not sure if i hav 2 put adjustable uppers,lowers and panhard ods or cn i get away with the standard ones for a while..needs to b driven on road still so has to steer properly.thx guys

Dont need to adjust anything about lower control arms
Im running a 3inch EFS kit in my shorty and didn't change anything but the lower rear control arms with 16mm longer arms
You get tail shaft vibrations with a 3inch lift in a shorty but easy to fix with 16mm longer lower control arms.
Dont need to change anything alse for road use but when you want to go off road mite want to consider putting longer brake lines in as the standed ones are just to short.

Ill elaborate
If you lift a swb 3 inches and the tailshaft doesn't vibrate then you will be extremely lucky. I think you will find that it will vibrate and if it does there are a couple of ways to fix it. Before i explain first thing is to make sure the Uni joints are in good condition! I went as far as replacing mine the day i did my lift to make sure they were ok, also make sure your shaft is balanced.
Then when it does vibrate you can try these things.
1. use gearbox packers to drop the transfer a few mm's
2. put longer lower arms in to rotate the diff and try and match the rear shaft angles.
3. Have someone cut your rear spring and shock mounts off rotate the diff so their is almost zero angle on the uni at the diff end. Then have a double carden rear tailshaft made at the gearbox end to take up all the angle.
I have tried all of these options one by one and my shorty was a PAIN and in the end i chopped the spring and shock mounts off and had a double caren shaft made. its been in the car for 3 years without a problem and no more vibrations.
So in short their are 2 ways to attack the problem with the tailshaft. First is to try and match the uni joint angles (ie the gearbox and diff end unis need to be running at the same angle) This is were the gearbox packers and longer arms help.
Or you just take the angle out of the shaft at the diff end and let a double cardon shaft take all the angle.
As for panhard rods if your car is like mine it will be driveable without them but if you run 12.5 inch tyres or wider the drivers side tyre will scrub on the inner guard when it articulates. Get panhards anyway as the factory ones are weak as piss.
