What kind of troll do you have?
Full size units are a pain with a GU unless you get yourself a single din stereo.
For those kind of dollars you would be better off getting a Uniden UHO15sx.

This is a remote head UHF so it is easy to mount. Matched to a RFI CD900 antenna you will have crystal clear reception and good range. You can get this 6.5 antenna in a combo with a 6" 3db so you can have the best of both worlds. My head unit is under the center console at the rear and the face of the UHF is on the console in front of the gearstick.
There are are few people that don't like Uniden. Ive had 7 Uniden radios and haven't had any issues with them.

Go the RFI antenna i use the compact cd50 3db its only 300mm tall and running 30 watts through an old philips fm92 it works great in the bush and hilly country for close coms up to about 10k say either side of a large hill were a 6 db is near useless even with 30 watts and i also have a 7.5 db laser antenna for long range coms this set up works great and i can sit on a big hill and open repeters up to 200K away no problems tho for a nice fit radio in a newer truck ya cant go past the icom 400 pro or variants of it as its able to be modded to run 30 watt output also and looks nice and tidy in the din mount
Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys,

Its going in a 2002 GU Ute, might have to hunt throughthe local electrical/car goods stores. Don't have a credit card for buying online stuff >.<

Its to be mainly used in convoy situations and when out wheeling etc

i think i might end up going with the Uniden UH015SX and the RFI Explorist 3 & 6.5db GI 4WD Antenna Package, i know the uniden is available locally, but not sure on the antenna package.

The UH015sx is also good because the mic cable comes out on the drivers side. Unlike a lot of "Built for Aussie" units.
