Ford Couriers???
Does anyone have one or know anything about them?

Im looking at spending about 18k on a dual cab.. the couriers are about 05 with less than 100,000 kms on them. Other dual cabs dont seem to come down anywere near the low Kms and age...
But i was comparing the holden rodeo, but i aint come across any good rodeos yet.
I heard the Couriers lack the power for off roading.. I am only going to be sand driving though.
If anyone knows anything I would love to hear! .. Info is hard to come by..

I have driven these for work for a number of years. my verdict: Piece of Shit. I am sure that they can be made into a reasonably capable 4wd and they are budget BUT I have not owned one that I have not had problems with, they are light and lack power and will ultimately be limited in their capabilities.
Yea there uynderpowered and a bit sluggish one thing that does happen like clockwork at 100k is the head cracks on cylinder 1 intake port in the head have done heaps of them at work and it is rather expensive to fix. the gearboxes arent all that great 5gear has a tendancy to break weather towing or not once again they are expensive to fix. My honest opinion would be to save a bit more money and buy a Ranger much stronger and go like a cut snake.

Low power and sand is a disaster in the making, youre engine really has to work hard in the sand and if it struggles on bitumen, youre screwed.
Although I have heard of the above problems, I feel some of you boy's are really giving the old courier a bit of a bad rap.
I have 3 4x4 PG couriers (2005 models), two of them are 2.5 TD's and I drive a 4.0 V6.
The two diesels have both travelled around 150 - 160 km's with no issues apart from one needing a clutch recently.
I wouldn't say they are race cars but any means but they produce good honest td diesel power and very good economy as well.
We also have a hilux 3.0 td (2003 model I think) and although it feels to have a little more power I belive the difference would be so close it's not funny. It has travelled approx 185 km's and in that time it has had two rear diff centers , a new gearbox and new radiator.
My 4.0 v6 courier is the DUD of the bunch however. It has been back to ford so many times I lost track.
When I picked it up (1st day) no air cond, it turned out that it was never connected at the factory.
A few months later It went back for a leaking front cv/diff seal.
About 6 months after that the clutch master failed.
The other cv/diff seal failed about 2 months later and the first cv shaft was replaced as i'm guessing ford damaged it when they did the previous seal.
lastly at about 85kms the gearbox had a bearing colapse and was rebuilt by ford. I was told by ford that this failure was now isolated to the V6 not the diesel which had its gearbox issues sorted by PG series. Now this could have been caused by the tandum trailer that I tow about 300kms a week that weighs about 2.8 tonnes.
personally if I was to buy a 4x4 ute to modify for some fairly serious 4wd word I probably would look at a hilux as there is more stuff to mod them, but for a work/ fun 4wd ute at the right price I firmly belive the courier are hard to beat.
My v6 will go everywhere my mates v6 3.4 hilux will go, it has the same ground clearance and a better LSD .

thanks for the friendly advice andrew .. it does seem tho that some people really have it in for the ford courier (no offence to those guys) but then other ppl say they are alright.. so its a bit confusing haha

im not really that keen to turn it into a 4wding monster. maybe change the suspension 2.5inch lift MAX.. (i have heard that a suspension lift is really expensive on a courier???) and hopefully get some steel rims.. for sum wider tyres.

I have a 2005 PG Courier dual cab for my work ute. I like it! I think the power is quite good. It is geared quite low and I can cruise at 110kph no problem. Great for towing my Jayco pop top too. I've had mine on the beach and it was fine. I would recomend these utes for light duty 4wdriving.

I got brand new Colorado 16x7 steel wheels from the local Bob Jane. They had heaps there that were traded in off new vehicles. Scored two sets at $20 per wheel. Yeh apparently a local company bought a heap of new Colorado's and took them straight to Bob Jane to get Muddies and alloy wheels fitted. I put a set on my Courier and a set on a Triton. Most of the independant front 4wd vehicles have the same offset. Stud pattern is the usual 6 stud that most 4wd's have.supersean89 wrote:ohh ok.. wow thats a pretty good deal
