Going to rebuild the ol 4.2 i have sittin here.
I would like to turbo this one and put it in my GQ (replacement for my 2.8)
Can anyone recommend on pistons etc?.. I will be havin the block relined and the head done up.
Any suggestions or ideas.
Im plannin to whack a cummins turbo on it as one guy has it on his GQ and it has eliminated all the lag he has on his car.

My diff ratios are 4.6s (standard with 2.8 TDs) so shoudl be good for the 35's which are going on after the swap is done.

have alook at the 4wd systems site they do rebuild kits for the TD42, Donkyatt may also. They include most bits and cost about $1299 or something like that.
Also have you got yourself a gearbox to suit as the 2.8's come with the 300zx gearbox and the TB/TD42's came out with a more HD one.
I havnt worked out what I am going to do with mine as it needs a rebuild before turbo install. So not sure if I should get a TD42 or a TD42T from the wreckers or rebuild the one I got. My main reason for going for one from the wreckers is I want to upgrade all the other bits to newer stuff (ie ALT/VAC set up). So I thought this is the easy way.

If you want to turbo you are better off getting a TD42T out of a GU

Ring Engines Australia in Brisbane...I bought my kit from them..$1200...That covered everything...Pistons,sleaves,Conrods, Bearing, Gaskets..
Basiclly all standed,just went 10thou over sized on pistons,mains bearing and big end bearings..got the thickest head gasket to lower compression for the turbo...
i rebuilt it 2 year ago running 10-14 pound boost have had no problems...

What comp are you achieving approx now mate?
What thickness head gasket?
Wouldn't there be de-comp plates available, or is this dropping the comp too much. I've never done a turbo conversion on a diesel, but am buying a 4.2 GQ soon, and will want to be doing this pretty well straight away depending on the k's it has on the odo.
