im no expert and im in nsw but my guess would be no to the big hoop on the front bar, although the one in the pic has a number plate and ive seen other road legal exos before, besides pom, thunder and his mate in the lux have legal exos.
probably check vic roads or ask RN what his thoughts are. hope this helps

For sure, But i bet he finds another reason to defect ya car and send it for a full inspection. Just wait till his offsider pulls out a spec handbook and a tape measure.

Just admit to an exo and maybe bullshit them about trying to keep safe off road cause your a single dad and your kids love spending time with ya camping, wheeling, etc. Bet he can or a mate of his can relate to being seperated and will prob let ya go.

Found playing dumb and apologetic works the best 2nd only to having a mate to clear defects

I had this exo on my Sierra and never had any dramas in regards to registration of the vehicle. It had a full pit inspection at VicRoads when I reregistered it so don't see why it wouldn't pass. But your best bet would be to talk to VicRoads and/or an engineer

I don't recall the exact dimension, but from memory, a 160mm diameter ball has to be able to smoothly roll over the profile of the car, so the furthest projection of an exo has to be within 80mm of the body

That exo looks fairly neat, so it would probably be fine. The bigger issue that ensuring that the mounts to the chassis meet the engineers requirements.

The other issue is that wen a car is engineered there will always be some handling element and a weighbridge ticket. As such, I wouldn't really be certing a car with an exo fitted for those reasons. Once it's on though, so long as it passes the "ball" rule, and rules on sharp edges radiuses etc (all the same as for bull bars) there's no reason it's not legal.

PS, I've not been able to find anything that specifically rules out a "stinger" style bar on a 4WD in Victoria. Obviously there's issues with visibility, radius, sharp edges etc, but nothing about the actual shape of a bar that prevents a stinger outright. It's very subjective.

the stinger bar would probably come under pedestrian protection, just like you can run a bull bar or a bumper, but cant run without, even if you clean everything up.
much of it makes little sense and if they dont want it there, then too bad...

My Engineer is fine with an exo but as Steve mentioned, it must allow a certain diameter ball to roll over it, have no sharp edges and not obstruct your vision. The issue is the stinger and it is my understanding that you cannot have projections forward of the vehicle and I think there is also an issue with the height above the bonnet line. I know I have seen something written somewhere about this but can't remember exactly what it was. The issue is the possible harm to pedestrians and I don't think thatit would allow them to go over the bonnet if struck.

I recommended that he approach his RTA . They are the ones that tick them off.

here's the regs re bullbars in Vic.

In short, a stinger isn't automatically illegal - the references to profile are prefaced by "should" not must, and that doesn't mean they are enforceable.

It mustn't obstruct vision though.

the top front hoop would be in your line of vision and therefore it would have to come off. Also the eyebolts are past the furthermost front part of the "new Bumberbar" and would also need removing to make it legal.

I think there was an ADR ammendment to bullbars that stated in the event of a pedestrian collision the bullbar must not direct the podestrian to the ground. When I worked for Megastore in 05 a memo was sent to us stating design changes.

That would make the stinger illeagal.

The stingers are fine in Vic

My mate got a RWC for his patrol about about this time last year and Vic roads didnt seem to care and didnt even look twice at it and it sticks out a fair bit.

And that was at Dandenong Vic Roads
