'82 60 series

Post by Chucky »

As some of you know I had my 80 written off a few weeks ago by a wanker doing a illegal U-Turn in front of me in a truck.

As a result of looking around, but more importantly, asking friends to keep their eyes open, I have found a 60 in good cond, and execellent mech cond. Plus some goodies in it as well.

It's a '82 60 gxl. Shes got a 2" lift, drawers, roof and centre consoles, aftermarket seats and front, side and rear barwork with swing out tyre holder. Long range tanks, UHF and spotties sort out the look of the thing.
Front and rear ARB diff lockers add to the deal, but the clencher was the 6.5 V8 under the bonnet with the twin 3" pipes that sound so sweet.
New A/C compressor, and over haul of the A/c system as well (Drier etc), New Alt and 12 months rego just sweeten the deal even more.

All up for $11K. I'm quite happy with this price as I will be the cars only third onwer and I personally know the other two previous owners so I know, and can easily find out, anything I want to/need to about the car's history.
I have already gone over the thing throughly, checking body and chassis, I have found a few small spots of rust along the roof gutters where the old roof rack rested, but that's about it. I even pulled the door skins and the wagon space interanl cover off to check.
What I am asking is, is there any unusaly spots I need to keep an eye on for rust in the future?
Also, I have a shiteload of spares left over from the 80 (wheel bearings, axel seals, manual locking hubs and even wheel studs) and was hoping someone could confirm that these would fit the 60.

Cheers
Chucky

Not for one with all that gear, and a known history. In fact I would say it's a bargain. As mentioned rust is probably the only factor. All 60's rust and if it really bothers you it would be best not to buy it. (or any 60)

Thanks for your help, I'll double check those spots.

As for paying too much for a 27y/o car. I think I'm getting a bloody good price.
I've been looking at 60's for the last few weeks while looking at everything else, and to get a 60 in fair cond. you are looking at around $5K for a turbo diesel. and that's fairly standard in everything else (except bullbars and maybe a small lift)
Price up the 6.5 chev with converson kit, lockers, the rest of the bar work and the rest of the stuff and I'm way in front.

Again, thanks for the heads up.
