Spoke to Robbie Mathieson this morning, Huddy and Andrian left his work shop last night at about 6.00 pm to join the group for the night stage nav run down south. So great effort by all at the workshop - well done.

I was at Robbie's workshop at 3.00 pm yesterday and Nick Mannel was about to leave after repairing his rig.

Robbie's shop has been open around the clock so not much sleep for him. Good to see more than one work shop available this year.

Dave Cameron from Victoria was stage winner at the prologue on the short course (not sure of the fastest car for the long course), beat the next car by some 5 seconds - well done Dave. Daniel is his navi from SA.

Lot of spectators were happy with the Sunday program although it was difficult to grasp the full excitment of the stage as the track was flat, no big drum and no winching. You could go into the stands at the racecourse but that was bloody cold and a fair distance from the action.

Stephens Creek was a buzz with the camp fires and bbqs - so Broken Hill people love the concept of getting out for the night. The action was good with each vehicle completing two laps as there was only twenty three staters. Sometimes small groups are fun.

Had to come back on Sunday to Adelaide to work so hope we get more updates from the people at the action. More pics please.

After a mad weekend in the Hill I am back in Melbourne and already missing the action at Denian. After 5years it feels like I have lost part of me but I am sure it is good hands and things move on!

Great work by Huddy / Muppet and the boys that helped out. Thanks to Silver City for all the efforts so far.

On a personel level I would like to thank all those that helped me over the weekend. It is so special when you can go to the Hill and it is like going back home. The local people can never do enough and are so generous. You are all a cedit to the town and the reason we all keep coming back.

To all involved keep safe, have a great week.

Hi guys

I went up for the weekend for a look and back at work today.

It was great to catch up with everyone again. Just not used to the lower numbers, hopefully this will make the event easier to manage in the new format.

Speaking to the competitors they are happy to be travelling all together and having the scores updated daily.

Will post updates as I hear.

Just some friendly marketing and advertising for Robbie.

Robbie's business, where a lot of the trucks having been going this year (Dave, Huddy, Nick and others) is KIWOZIE 4 X 4 (not silver city) and the guys out on the track all have his number.

This will certainly make it easier for the trucks to get back out on track if they are in need.

I'm good thanks Celia but like many past competitors it's hard not being there  but reading the updates as they come through is the next best thing.

My wife and Danni (The Trudis) should be at Denian by now so will hopefully get an update on todays stages later on tonight ;)

Should be getting updates from Andrew Norman & Hobzee when they get 5 mins to spare also

Cheers, The Fish.

#########LATEST UPDATE FROM DENIAN##########

Just spoke to Hobzee who's standing by a fire awaiting their run on the Arabian Nights SS and this is a run down of todays news

- PGS boys not seen at Denian all day but reason unknown.

- Hoon running standard harmonic balancer and is taking it easy as he reckons it will come loose again.

- Huddy & Nick Mannell re-joined the group.

- Last nights SS consisted of 20 waypoints with a 70 min DNF. About 5 teams found all 20, 2-3 teams found 19 and then the rest of the field dropped away from there. Lots of dust on the SS with half the field on the SS at once. Anthony Kilner had a minor engine bay fire but no damage done. Believe this to be caused by a stripped captive nut for securing a rocker cover and hence rocker cover leaking.

- GunBarrel SS today had Greg Scanlon finishing 1st even though he was on 5 cyl. due to an injector issue. Bruce Borchardt claimed 2nd.

Hoon and Jeff Redman raced against each other with Redman returning quickest but both missed the same gate and recieved DNF's :bad-words:

- Sand Wall SS consisted of climbing the wall and then a 5 km/5 waypoint run with a 20 min DNF. Also navvies had to climb the wall this year. Only 5 teams finished inside the DNF  with the other teams having a variety of problems including winch/power issues, buried vehicles, anchors not holding, struggling with Lat/Long HDDD MM.MMM format

No team drove the wall but Al Mac drove the furthest falling one Jeep length short of driving the wall. That's where the stage ended for Al as his winch was in the back of the Jeep in pieces :x When practising in the morning the winch wouldn't stop winching in and self-destructed :bad-words: In the process of pulling battery leads to stop winch a terminal post was also removed :bad-words: They spent sometime grinding/welding this arvo so hopefully they have a usable winch again but will only be 12V.

- Not sure if it was during the nav section of the Sand Wall SS but Huddy ran over a substantial log at full throttle and buckled both front beadlock rims. He finished the last 2km of the SS with both front tyres hanging off the rims but the tyres suffered no damage  He's running the General Tyre and there's a selling point if one's needed

- Only 4 teams haven't recieved a DNF so far and it really looks like this year, more than ever, will come down to a balance of driving to win and driving to conserve the vehicle. Those that haven't recieved a DNF and in the presumed current running order are -

1st - Coops/Hummer (Team to be beat and looking strong)
2nd - Greg Scanlon (Running on 5 cyl. which may help conserve driveline)
3rd - Lawrie/Hobzee (Not pushing it to the limits until later in the week)
4th - Max/Cosmo (Just cruising along but will hopefully avoid parking the Jeep on a rock this year)

Hobzee is going to ring after Arabian Nights with what he knows providing it's not too late

Don't have any other placings/details at this stage and as always my apologies for any inaccurate details but Hobzee had poor reception and please don't shoot the messenger :D

Cheers, The Fish ;)

Great Report Fish keep them coming.

Sounds like fun in the sand. Do you know is Ant and Andrew are still running?

Huddy is pushig hard and a credit to the only Aussie production class truck! Go the Farm Truck!

The sand hill sounds an interesting format

I wish I was in the sand and not in Melbourne! The first time in 5 years but shit happens

Brett and James from PGS have had the alternator fan fly apart, bits went through the bonnet and destroyed thier backup fan belt, they are waiting on new belts and should be back at it tomorrow. An issue with the alternators overspeeding on gearshifts, they have been forced to race in the transmissions normal shift mode not the performance mode to reduce the number of gear shifts that occur, it's a full auto programmed auto trans.

what do you mean by that statement Gary?
Hope your not taking a cheap shot at Silver City, considering their contribution to the challenge over the past 10 years.

I recall seeing you there using their free services more than once.

update Tuesday lunch

Post by Hobzee »

Here's an update at Tuesday Lunch - we have just completed a very rough point to point nav through heavy bush and pot hole country.

13 cars back on time.

Al Mac had a fire and it is out and mino repairs being done but not at finish yet.

Not sure where Hoon is - was told on radio he is coming.

Huddy's shocks in front both destroyed.

Dave Cameron just blew a brake line and had no brakes.

All tyres standing up really well - hardly seen a plug

Max is launching his new designer brand of underwear here and Andy Miller has "The Apron"

More pics will be on my blog in next hour - www.4h.com.au coz I dont know how to load pics here still.
