'as copied from marks 4x4':

The Gearmaster® Overdrive is a bolt on auxiliary transmission that adds an overdrive gear to your existing 4-speed transmission. The unit can be used as an overdrive by engaging it in top gear or as a gear splitter for 3rd gear. We recommend 3rd gear only for gear splitting as this type of use will not exceed the maximum torque rating of the unit.

With the addition of the overdrive gear, your engines power can now be used more efficiently along with reduced engine wear, and improved fuel economy.

For example if your vehicle has an engine RPM of 3000 when driven at 100kph in fourth gear, this same vehicle when equipped with a Gearmaster® will have an engine RPM at the same road speed of 2310. This is a drop in RPM of 23% for the same highway speed. The Gearmaster® overdrive ratio is in fact significantly taller than the 5th gear ratio found in most standard 5-speed transmissions.

The Gearmaster® Overdrive works by varying the speed of the main drive gear in the transfer case. A new main drive gear is used with a special main shaft coupler to connect the overdrive to the transmission. The rest of the original transmission and transfer case is retained without modification or relocation. The unit may be operated in 2WD or 4WD.

The internal design of the Gearmaster® overdrive consists of a fully synchronised truck type synchroniser coupled with precision helical gears. The gear train is mounted on heavy-duty bearings that allow a maximum torque load of 600nm/450ft lbs. they are all housed in a cast aluminium, finned housing for efficient oil cooling.

When the Gearmaster® is used as a gear splitter, you will be able to keep the RPM loss to a minimum, therefore, maintaining better drivability by keeping the engine at its optimum torque output. Note: Gear splitting 1st and 2nd is not recommended as the torque multiplication of these gears can exceed the maximum torque rating of the unit.

The unit may be engaged or disengaged on the run by simply depressing the clutch pedal and shifting the overdrive into the required mode.

The Gearmaster® is designed for maximum ease of fitting. Installation requires no special tools and can be performed by any transmission workshop. Each unit is supplied with all the required installation parts, shift lever assembly and a step by step installation guide.

Yes it does, infact I already have that information.

What I was looking for were folks who have installed the Gearmaster and thoroughly tested it.

Feeback

Thanks for all the information.

Kinda like on the other two boards, not one taker. I guess they are not big sellers?

I have a customer from the US who wants one in a FJ45, he thinks this is the best solution to a overdrive other than the H55.

I guess I will push him towards the H55 since there is no feedback on this item.

Hey Rob, have not seen much of ya on Pirates or Mud, to busy running your rig?

Thanks
