So I picked myself up a widetrack Sierra...
...1989 model hardtop. It's bloody ace! Thought I'd drop past the Suzuki part of this forum and see what people have done to theirs. So far I've ordered:
2" taller springs and shocks
4.16:1 Crawler tcase gears
Rocky Road skidplate for the fuel tank
2" more offset rims (15"x 8")
I'm planning on running 31x10.5 Simex Extreme Trekkers on it, anyone here run these? Have they been any good? Not too fussed about clearance issues, as I'll be making a 2" body lift for the thing, and it won't be road-driven at all. I'll also be making my own rollcage and bullbar for the thing, will post pics when I'm done!

Oh, I probably should have mentioned that I'm the guy that had the 1-litre Sierra advertised on eBay a while ago, with the pictures of it on top of Uluru and whatnot. I've also got a little clip of me in my old Sierra, 10 minutes before I rolled it.

I could be wrong, but wouldn't 10.5" wide tyres go better on a 7" rim?
Tighter fit, and less chance of popping a bead or rim damage?
Im running 33x10.5 on a 7" rim, and in my opinion wouldn't want any wider rims (more offset would be nice tho!).

did you actually keep going on that track till you got to the BIG hill. Thats where the fun starts. In a stockish 4x4 the dunny run is hard but in a locked car its good fun.

Yeah that track was ace! Did a loop going the whole way up there then back along H-Tree Extension, then along this dirtbike track. Time trials at night were fun! Overtook a Patrol up the steeper rutted part of that Dunny track...I don't think he was impressed. I haven't got any more vids of my old Suzuki, but I spent years filming and editing BMX videos, so I've got a bunch of camera equipment...will have to get some footage of my new one going places that Mr Suzuki designers never intended!built4thrashing wrote:did you actually keep going on that track till you got to the BIG hill. To keep it tech: Yeah I'll be running the claimed 31s, which I think measure at around 30". I don't want to go too big diameter, as it's only a 1.3, don't want to over-tyre the thing just yet.
Tech also: Has anyone here made their own fuel tank skidplate for theirs? Me and my bro had a bad habit of stoving in the tank, we've had 5 of these Sierras between us now, and they've all done the same. A friend of mine was at Rocky Road in the States, and has bought me one of their 'Zuk gas tank skids' and is posting it to me, so I'll see how it goes.
